This is unbetta'd I will re post when it is fixed :D
Chapter four:
We drove to McDonalds after I turned off my cell phone and brought back our dinner to Addison's. We sat on his back porch rail to eat side by side watching the sunset. Like some kind of couple. I felt weird because I had no idea what to make of this situation. Was I his boyfriend? Should I be? There were too many questions in my head I didn't know where to start so I didn't. I'm sure Addison was just as afraid to talk, or maybe he was just enjoying the sunset. I don't know. Either way we sat twelve- incredibly awkward for me- minutes in silence.
"Are you okay?" Addison asked me sipping his coke and raising an eyebrow.
I half shrugged. "I don't know." I told him and risked a sideways glance. "Are we- dating?" I asked not sure if I was hoping for a 'yes' or a 'no'.
He licked his lips, maybe because he was nervous but I was betting it was to get the taste of french-fries off of him. "Do you want to be?" He asked and that put me on the spot.
I weighed the options in my head. I knew dating him wouldn't make me un-popular, but what if it was just a fluke and what I'm feeling doesn't mean I'm gay. You have to understand, I have my whole life pin-pointed on this choice. "Yeah, I guess." I told him and ran a hand through my hair not sure what I just committed to.
His eyes widened in surprise. "You-want to date me?" He asked completely shell shocked.
I shrugged. "Sure, uh could we sort of do it in secret at first? I'm still not sure how I feel about anything but I want to try it. If we make it a week I swear I'll come out but- I just want to be positive."
His nod was enthusiastic. I don't think any other answer would have made him as happy as he was right now.
"So we're dating." I stated firmly. "Should I sleep at home or is it still cool that I'm here?"
"It's cool. This way we have more time to-experiment." He smiled and I nervously smiled back. How far did he want to take things?
Suddenly I was broken out of my nervous trance. "Hey guys you sure that's safe?" I heard from over the fence and glanced in the way of Devin Mathews. He so wasn't the guy I wanted to talk to and-did he just seriously question my love life?
"What makes you think it's any of your business?" I snapped still angry from when he gave me the detention.
"Well," He started going into his lecture face. "If you both fall and break your legs I'm going to have to call the ambulance and quite frankly, I don't want to."
"Shut up you don't need to be all sarcastic about it." I snapped again feeling defensive. Although I did get off the edge, maybe I was being too risky.
He rolled his eyes. "You don't need to be snippy but you are." He shot back elongating the word 'You.' "What are you doing over there so late on a school night anyway?" He asked getting to comfortable with me again. I watched Addison squirm for a second.
"I only explain my reasoning to friends and clearly you're not my friend." I struck and jumped down from the balcony to the deck before helping Addison down as well. We should just go inside. He was getting annoying.
I know I sound like a girl there. Stomping off dragging my boyfriend with me. But that wasn't what I was doing- even if it really was. I should just learn to stop avoiding people and just man up. Maybe tomorrow.
"What do you want to do?" I asked Aid after safely closing the blinds.
"We could- you know…" Addison suggested.
"What was with you always trying to jump my bones with out asking before I said I was gay and now it's all. 'We could-you know...'" I asked mocking him to cover the fact I made a mistake.
He smirked and pulled his legs up on the counter striking a pose. "Well I was trying to not scare you away but if you want, come get it."
I snorted. "I don't think so. I'm wiling to try dating you but nothing fast." I fucking haven't even fucked a girl yet. Is what I really was thinking but what I said sufficed. It probably made me seem less like a loser too. After all I had a reputation of getting cozy pretty quickly. Even if it wasn't true.
"I meant kissing. That's not too fast. We've already done that." He suggested and I got a one of my loser-ish ideas that I swear if anyone knew I was doing I'd kill myself.
I walked up to the counter and leaned down to Addison who was laying on it. "Okay." I lifted myself up on to the counter hoping it could support both our weight and placed my lips against his.
"So, I thought you might be needing me tonight because of how that jerk led you on again-and I even brought ice-cream! Chocolate fudge! Your favorite." I tried to jump off of Addison as I heard the voice coming but he jut twisted his fingers in my hair not letting me escape.
I finally broke free as the voice came around the corner and I practically fell off the counter. Well, I did but saying practically makes me sound a lot cooler.
"Hey Chase," Addison said breathlessly giving what we had been doing away. I half smiled at him from the ground out of awkwardness and didn't say anything. "We were uh- just –um" He fished for an explanation.
"Were making out?" Chase deadpanned as his eyes gave me a look that could have stricken me dead if he was bit by the right spider.
I nervously laughed at that but couldn't find the words to actually contribute to the conversation.
Aid shrugged. "Yeah." I could tell he was just as nervous as I was but at least he was talking. I was just sitting on the ground completely mute.
Chase's face morphed to a slightly angry version of his face before but he kept his cool. "Fine." He said in monotone. "I guess I just have to leave."
"Don't be like that." Addison pleaded. "You can stay. We'll all eat ice-cream and uh talk. I think you'd two really like each other if you got a chance."
"Doubt it- he can't even seem to verbalize." He glared at me.
"My mother told me that if I didn't have anything nice to say not to say anything at all."
His eyes lite up and he took a step back. "Really?" He sounded astounded. "That's not the approach you had in class while talking about Addie."
I froze, shit he was going there.
"What did he say about me?" Devin was ruining my life all over again. If he had just stopped everything I wouldn't have had to say anything.
"Oh just that he'd rather fuck a cactus then you." Chase smirked as he said it.
I bit my lip. "I just didn't even know I was gay then."
"You said it today; you must have had some idea. Either way that's a really mean comment." Chase provoked any anger inside Aid.
I pleaded Addison not to get made at me with my eyes. He didn't get the situation.
"That's in the past." Addison said slowly staring at me seemingly believing my eyes. "I'm sure he doesn't mean that."
"I don't." I assured him.
"Prove it." Chase said quickly. "Prove it at school tomorrow if you really aren't just playing with him or some sick twisted thing like that!" he demanded. I swear he stole his lines from Soap Opera's he was so dramatic.
He did put me in a tough decision. I couldn't pick between staying with Addison and risking everything or staying comfortable and humiliating him.
"He will, in a week." Addison said assured. "Stop harassing my boyfriend."
Chase shut up but that didn't mean he didn't challenge me with his eyes. Damn it. I'm going to regret this.
"I'll do it. I have no problem. I'm bi though. I think." I muttered. I just couldn't stand down from anything; I think I have too much testosterone or something. I couldn't just say no- and stick to it.
I had to prove I was better than everyone.
I watched Chase's face falter. "Fine but if you don't- I get to punch you in the face after school. No fighting back."
"Chase!" Addison yelled. "You are not going to punch Harper in the face no matter what." I could see Addison's fear in his eyes. He thought if Chase punched me he lost all the -what he considered little- chance he had.
I shook my head and help up a hand. "Guys, calm down."
Addison looked over at me. "I'm happy even if no one knows as long as I have him. Don't you understand that Chase? I just want to be happy."
"I want you to be happy too." Chase whined but I think only him and I could hear the silent next part. He wanted Addison to be happy, with him.
Unfortunately for Chase, Addison has been hung up on me for practically a life time in teenage years. I don't think he had even thought about Chase that way. Which is sort of a shame. Even I could tell the boy had it bad for him. I guess I'm just lucky he kept pressing until I kissed him. God did he kiss good.
Addison straightened his posture. "Good, then you'll let me be happy with Harper. You-," He stopped lowering his voice with a slight blush covering his face. He was so out of character today. "You know how long I've liked him. Just be happy for me today."
Chase licked his lips and shifted his gaze downwards. "Fine." It looked like it took a lot out of him to say that one word.
We all stood in silence for a couple of seconds not knowing what to say. Fortunately my cell phone ringer broke the silence. Unfortunately the ringer was I'm Bringing Sexy Back by Justin Timberlake.
I glanced at the name and rolled my eyes. Instead of picking up I ignored it and set it off to the side.
"Who is it?" Addison asked gesturing to my phone.
I gave him a half smile. "It says it's my mom but it's her boyfriend." I sneered at the word.
"That sucks." The empathetic phrase surprisingly came from Chase.
"Huh?"
"You don't seem to like him." He replied nonchalantly.
I shrugged. "He's not a bad guy or anything, he just- I don't know rubs me the wrong way." I shivered. He was just creepy. For god's sake he was morguetiton, all that embalming fluid and dead bodies, and that sad thing was- it fit him. So excuse me if I didn't like him.
"Oh so he molested you in your sleep?" He asked smirking. "Is that were you got this gay fascination?"
Addison took two strides and that was all it took to place himself square in front of Chase and pushed him over to the ground. "Stop trying to ruin what I have. If you were really my friend you would stop it. Now get out of my house."
I saw sadness and regret seep into Chase's eyes. They almost mirrored Addison. The only exception was Aid didn't look that regretful. "Addie." He whisper hopelessly.
"No if you can't be nice to my- boyfriend- I don't want you in my house."
"I'll be good I promise." He pleaded from the ground looking from me to Addison and my weak spot got poked.
"Aid let him stay."
"What?" They both asked at the same time.
I lowered my head in a small bow type thing. "He's just jealous. You know it. I know it. Let's just move past it okay?" I felt bad for him I seriously did.
"You're sweet Harper." Addison said with the gushiest of smiles. It always looked weird when he did that. I mean he wasn't that feminine looking; he pretty much did look like your average, fit, guy. So the smile? It looked weird.
"So.."I trailed off.
"Want to have a party?" Addison asked. "It's not too late, I bet I can get some people over."
And that he could.
