Embrace
When I lay my ear
Against my bed
And listen to the sound of machines through the springs
I pretend
It is
Your heart whirring and thumping through your skin.
Under my head
Are crop circles
Of heart valves and blood vessels
And skin stitched together
From orange bedspread and pillowcase.
Your mattress flesh
Is firm against my chest
And your blanket arms
Hold me close.
I can breathe inside your body.
