Like a Mercy

Perhaps i am a little puddle,
for my size, deep and clear and calm.

i hold the moon
it's reflection inside of me
on dark, wide nights.

Without me
it would still rise in the heavens
as luminous and brightly mysterious
as always,
this satellite of the earth, this changeling
bringer of light;

but with me
it touches ground.
