The Last Candle

To Emily

I light a candle for you tonight, Beloved.
None can ever surpass your rare beauty
like that of a lilac- understated but so bright.
I smile for you knowing you are happy
in his embrace and that I have
found peace in my Lover's arms.

You are the sun that shines in the sky
and I was never meant to live in your light.
I trudge through the darkness
in search of my own path, where I
found my Reaper. Darkness calls to dark-
never to the bright. I smile and walk away,
maybe one day our paths will cross again.

As this candle burns out I find closure tonight.
Mother, take my burden from my shoulders.
I have a touch of your light inside my heart.
I will never forget my Beloved.
