I was drowning again. Falling. Sinking. Someone was following me. I couldn't escape them. I would try and no matter what, they would find me. I was lost. Trapped. I couldn't breathe.
Anna...
I was running now. I was running fast. I could hear footsteps behind me. They were gaining. I remembered my mother's voice telling me to keep running. Run Anna, Run! I could keep running and I knew that they would keep gaining. I couldn't win.
Anna...
I was sitting in a chair. I couldn't move. My hands were tied to the arms and my feet to the legs. My mouth was gagged. I struggled, but it didn't help. I was stuck here. There was a woman walking towards me. Her hair was the most amazing blonde. She smiled and bent down. I felt something cold against my leg. I swallowed in fear. This felt so real, and the pain that knife inflicted wasn't any different. I couldn't scream.
Anna!
Anna's eyes snapped open from her sleep. It was always the same dream. Every night she would feel the fear and wake up screaming. She swallowed an attempt to get her breathing back to normal and wet her dry mouth. Anna rolled over and checked her phone. It was two am and she had three missed calls and a text message. She checked the calls. One was from an unknown and two were from her sister's friend. The text message told her that her sister was going to stay the night. Anna sighed and put her phone back onto the bedside table. She rolled over onto her back and looked up to the ceiling. She couldn't fall back asleep, not when she knew what would happen. Anna closed her eyes for only a second. She soon opened them and cried out. Her dream wasn't ending.
In her line of sight someone stood. Anna saw the knife and swore when it came towards her chest. She turned quickly onto her side and grabbed the only thing she could. The lamp on her bedside table. Anna looked back and saw her attacker. Female, couldn't have been more than 27. She was fit and looked like she could disappear in a second. The knife came towards Anna again and it just missed her. It took her a second to overcome the shock.
She managed to kick the attacker back and just miss the knife again. Fumbling, she barely managed to grab her attackers arm. Anna pulled her forward and brought the lamp down onto her head. The knife went under the bed. Anna threw the lamp away and took a handful of the other woman's hair. She gripped tightly and brought the attacker's face down onto the beside table's corner. Again and again she hit her attackers head into the wood. Again and again she heard the disgusting crunch of flesh and bone hitting wood.
Anna sat back quickly, breathing fast. The intruder fell to the ground, limp. When Anna saw the blood start to appear from under the attacker's hair, she grabbed her phone. Quickly, Anna left the room. She called the only person she could think of. Her mother. Anna's mother, Jenny Diverson was the head of an important company. Anna never really cared much as to what her mother did. But it sounded important. She dialled the number and held the phone to her ear.
"Hello, this is Jenny Diverson's office. She's busy right now, can I take a message?" The voice on the other end asked.
"Is my Mum there?" Anna gushed, trying to breathe normally. "Tell her it's Anna and it's really important."
"I'm sorry Anna, but she's in a meeting right now." The person told her. "Can I hel-"
Anna nearly growled in frustration. "Please, just get her!" She begged.
There was a pause before the person spoke again. "I'm sorry, but she sai-"
"Oh forget it." Anna hung up. She licked her lips and placed some hair behind her ear. Why was it always so hard to speak to her mother?! She fiddled with her phone and dialled triple zero. She placed the phone to her ear again.
Slowly, Anna stepped back into her bedroom. It looked just as she'd left it. The bed was a mess and the lamp lay broken in the corner. But the attacker was no longer on the ground. Anna glanced around the room, looking for any sort of movement. The voice of the operator asked her where to direct her call, but Anna couldn't move. She couldn't even speak or make a small noise.
The phone was taken from Anna's hand and the call was ended. She swallowed and felt the knife against her throat. She whimpered.
"Shouldn't have left the knife." The attackers voice was harshly whispered into her ear. Anna opened her mouth to scream. But she never got the chance. As soon as her mouth opened, the attacker moved the knife across her throat. Anna was pushed to the ground harshly. She gripped her throat. She looked up, silently begging for help. She gasped for air. She couldn't breathe. She couldn't move. She couldn't even scream. The last thing Anna ever saw would be the woman attacker as she bent in. A cold smirk on her lips.
"Another attack has taken place at 841 Henderson place at around 2:30-"The woman tuned out of the information coming over the radio. Her nose was buried in the papers before her. Pictures covered the walls of locations, spotting and victims.
"Jenny, we have news on the recent attack." It was only when they spoke that Jenny noticed the person in her office.
She looked up slowly. It was Dave, her partner. "It's at my home." She said softly.
The man nodded slowly. "It's the same as every other. Scenes a mess but no evidence of the attackers found. No DNA, no finger prints, no blood. It's spotless as far as that goes." He sighed slightly before adding. "You're not going to like who the victim is this time."
Jenny remained silent, waiting to hear who it was. Was it an innocent who walked by, one of her daughters friends, who was it? Dave cleared his throat and brought her attention fully back to him. "The night stalkers hitting closer to home now. She's just playing with you, teasing you." He swallowed. "Jenny, it's your eldest. Anna."
He paused for a moment and when she didn't say anything, he left. He closed the door and heard a scream. Something smashed against the wall. Dave knew now that Jenny would give this her all. He walked into the elevator. He smiled charmingly at the blonde woman standing beside him with a bruise on her cheek.
