My Love

We were side by side. As we always should be, as we always would be. We fought for all that is just, for freedom, and, most important of all, we fought for each other. The love for each other bound us together, connected us. My love for her affected everything I did, everything I said. My whole heart was filled with love for her. Words cannot describe how much I loved her.

"Reload" she shouted. I turned and fired another burst, killing a man. She had nearly finished reloading. Seeing a sniper I shouted. "Sniper! Get down!"As the words left my mouth I heard the bullet. We were so close together that we could feel the recoil jarring up the other's arm. Her body twisted and fell away from me. Glancing down I saw her on her knees, blood spurting from a gash in her neck

Either the sniper had a bad aim or she had moved before he had. A cry uttered from my lips and I fell to my knees, pulling her body towards me. I held her in my arms. She smiled at me and tried to speak, but blood gushed from her mouth.

This could not be happening. She couldn't die, I loved her too much. My love would heal her, protect her from death. Tears running hot down my cheeks. Heart hammering and a wave of terror, pain, and anguish spread through my body. I swept her beautiful hair away from her face and tried to wipe the blood from around her lips. She was too strong to die. Too strong with love for me, that could only be matched with my own love for her. We had loved each other for so long that there could be no end to it. There was no life without her.

"...I...lo...lo...love...y" she whispered. Her body became limp in my hands. She was no more. Pain! Such terrible pain racked my body. My vision was blurred by tears and pain and anger. Oh the pain! A scream of anguish, anger and abatement coursed through my body and erupted from my flared lips. Forever gone! Never again would I smell the scent of her hair as I hugged her. Never again would I feel her lips against mine, to seal our love for each other. Oh such terrible "PAIN!" My heart pounded against my rib cage, beating a lament of sorrow. No more. She is gone "FOREVER!" I raged inside myself and smashed my fists against the earth. Pummelling the ground, hands bleeding, but not stopping. I had to release the energy.

That is when I looked up. The sniper, my love's killer, no murderer, stood above me. "I'm sorry." He turned and walked again. A beast rose inside me. I wanted to run across and swipe his head from his body with my bare hands. Something stopped me. The thought that my love would not want me to, and the thought of what my love would think if I did.
