You unwrap the red candy
and pop it in your mouth,
sucking slowly on it,
savoring the taste.

The sweet, tangy scent fills my nose.
You smell like cherry Starbursts.

You smell like desire.

I long to taste your cherry mouth,
slip my arm around your waist
and kiss you,
the candy dyeing
both our tongues red.

Instead I sit next to you,
my hands itching for yours,
and stare in the darkness
at the actors on stage.

How hard it is to love someone
who will never love you back.

My cherry beauty, you smell like desire.
