there are parts of me you've ignored.
like the furniture you left in the storage unit
after the move, because you don't know
how to make it all fit in your life right now.
&i'm gathering dust.

in the beginning, you were
the very model of a perfect mother
with a love that could attract butterflies.

so why, now,
do i feel as though i've been eaten empty
by moths?

i just want to see the sunshine, again.
i just want you to dust me off
shine me down
cover the holes and –

uncover what you've ignored.

(even if i don't

fit
anymore.)

oh, kaitlyn.
i wanted my first poem back to be about you,
because

your words are all that sustain me
these days.

but instead my thoughts are clouded
by this.

sorry for the absence.
