So long, dear.

By Molly Amanda Wilson

-------------

It was in that instant the veil was gone

Veil…is that too cliché?

What I mean is finally I could see you

The faults that were said to be nonexistent glowed around your cracked skin

Cracked skin…sounds painful

But not only did I see you

I saw me

Through your eyes

A joke.

That part hurt the most, or I thought it would at the time

Until I saw that your punch line was even more biting

Except I didn't find either joke funny

So instead of swooning (as was my usual reaction in your presence)

I went home

And you faded away with time

Like every other regret.
