Doppelgänger

When I first gaze into the glass, I see

A person peering back who isn't me,

The emerald eyes are almost just like mine,

But there's a shadow ling'ring close behind.

A darkness spreads across the stranger's face,

My gentle smile with demon's lips replaced.

These shadows draw me closer to the glass

As though it were a portal I could pass.

I'm falling forward through another world

Where clouds of inky darkness mix and swirl.

And suddenly I find I can't escape,

I'm trapped inside this dim and bleak dreamscape.

And face to face with my unholy twin—

A battle that I know I cannot win.
