A/N: MAY I SUGJEST READING THE FIRST ADDITION OF THE SERIES "MY MASTER" FIRST.
then maybe it will make a little more sense? maybe? I don't know, they're both based at the same time only in two different perspectives ;D
But yeah, I'm going to try and make this as close to the other story as possible so neither of them contridict eachother. BUT KNOWING ME THERE'S NO GUARENTEES :P
Anywhos, now that I'm out of school I'll have the whole summer to work on this. I've even put my other stories on hold for now so I can complete this because IT'S THE BEST PLAN I'VE HAD EVER IN MY WHOLE EXCISTANCE OF LIVING O.O
okay, maybe not.
I stared at the small boy that ran back and forth between two older boys. His bright green eyes were watering as he chased his ball from one boy to the other. The older two laughed and taunted the small child. I felt so bad for the kid, though normally I wouldn't even give these kinds of situations any passing thought. But this situation was different. The kid reminded me of my sister; he had the same dark hair, the same green eyes, and the same pale skin. If I didn't know any better, I would have sworn to god that this was her son. But it wasn't, I'd never met this boy before and after I helped him, I doubted I would ever see him again.
"Caius?" My friend of almost twenty-or-so-years asked, waving his hand in front of my face. I must have been zoned out.
I blinked and shook my head slightly, "Oh, sorry, Robert… what were you saying?" I asked, now giving him my full attention.
He sighed and sat down across from me, studying me like I was a client of his when he was a physiatrist. "Caius, you've been acting strangely since… you know."
"I haven't been acting any differently," I protested softly, taking a bite of the Italian pasta that the waiter had served.
"Yes you have, you zone out a lot and you forget things," Robert argued, "You're not yourself. I think you should go talk to someone…"
"I don't need to talk to anyone, I'm fine and you're just over reacting."
He frowned and watched me carefully, probably waiting for me to break down and tell him everything that was on my mind. But that wasn't going to happen; he wouldn't look at me the same way if I told him… told him about the reasons I'd done what I'd done and about the kid I'd so badly wanted by my side.
"Riley's worried about you too," he muttered, averting his gaze to his food so he wouldn't have to look at me in the eye.
I used this as the perfect chance to change the subject, "How is she doing?" I asked, "I haven't seen her in a while."
"Oh, she's doing fine, just like any normal thirteen-year-old girl, though I'm starting to get a little worried about the boys at her school," he chuckled, "Imagine mini us going after Riley, I have good reasons to be worried."
I chuckled, that girl was going to have her work cut out for her… and then my mind started wandering again to that little boy with those green eyes…
"When we went to get her," I started, hesitant about asking my question, "She had an older brother right?" I already knew the answer, but I didn't want him to know
Robert paused for a moment and then nodded, "That's right."
I took another bite of food, as though that would make me a little less suspicious. "Why didn't you take him as well?"
"Because his father didn't want to give him to me," Robert replied simply, "I wanted to take the boy as well, just to get both of them out of that hell hole. But their father wouldn't have it… such a pitiful man."
I frowned, looking down again, that meant there was no way he'd so easily hand him over to me after all these years.
"Caius, I want you to stay with me for a while, just until you're…" he stopped himself before he said something that would hurt me. But he didn't have to say it for it to hurt, I knew what he had meant.
"Robert, I told you I'm fine," I said sternly, "I never asked for your help and I certainly don't need it."
I stood up and stormed out of the restaurant, leaving my partially untouched food behind, which I wished I hadn't done… it was pretty good.
I half expected for Robert to follow behind me and beg for forgiveness, but he never came.
The car beeped at me once I pressed the unlock button on my keys. I climbed in and sat there for god knows how long. I couldn't move, could barely breathe… Robert never failed to make me feel sick. Sick of myself... For a moment I thought about just throwing myself over a cliff that wasn't too far away. But that was exactly what Robert was afraid of; no… expecting. I wouldn't give him the satisfaction of being right.
I turned the key in the ignition and started the car, driving off well over the designated speed limit.
It wasn't until I was already miles from where I'd started that I realized where I was heading. My mind subconsciously driving me back to that small neighborhood with the boy. I doubted he still lived where he did when I'd first met him but it was worth a shot just to see.
I stopped in front of the house that Robert and I had come too all those years ago. The lights were out and the house was much dingier than I remembered. I wanted to climb out and see if the boy still lived there, but I didn't have to. The boy I'd seen all those years ago walked out as if on cue and down the filthy stoop of his home. He threw his backpack over his shoulder and held some kind of clothing in his hand.
He barely noticed me, sure he looked up at my car but only because it was a nice car in a not-so-nice neighborhood.
I watched him walk; his swagger was entrancing I wanted to watch him as long as I could. I started the car and he glanced over his shoulder; I froze. Those deep emerald eyes pierced my heart and mind, I was absolutely numb.
After a moment he turned back around and continued walking. I waited until he turned the corner before I eased up on the break, making my car eerily creep forward until I saw him and again I waited for him to turn another corner.
I followed him all the way to his destination, a small coffee shop downtown that I'd passed by many times but ever stopped at.
Today, however, I would break that habit.
I parked my car and walked inside the store, my head was filled with the aromas of coffee beans and assortments of pastries. But all I wanted was him.
Casually, I walked up to the bar and desperately wanted the boy to take my order, but a middle-aged man did instead. I caught myself before I glared at him and stared at him expressionless.
"Can I help you?" the man asked graciously, wiping his hands on a towel.
I looked up at the menu but I didn't even bother reading it, I didn't care what I ordered I just wanted to watch him.
"Whatever your special is," I said plainly and the man nodded and walked off.
I sat down at a small table for two and waited for my order to be filled.
The boy ran around, gathering things and making orders. He was a hard worker from what I could tell. His green eyes never failed to woo the woman each time he'd smile and hand them their coffee.
His slight frame moved gracefully across the floor and over towards me. I swallowed hard and averted my gaze, not wanting him to catch me staring at him.
"Sir?" he said when he'd reached my table, placing my coffee next to me, "I hope you enjoy it."
I nearly melted right then and there.
I nodded at him and picked the cup up and placed it to my lips. He nodded back and left.
Before he left I noticed his name tag, just out of the corner of my eye. But there was no mistaking what name was on there. The same name that I'd heard when I'd helped the little boy get his ball back.
Aiden Cassidy would be mine some day.
