Fairytales: This novel is based on the story of Rapunzel (obviously), but also draws from a lesser-known Greek variant: Anthousa, Xanthousa, Chrisomalousa. This fairytale, in turn, steals some material from the Baba Yaga legends. Since I am both Greek and Russian, they were a pleasure to research and adapt.
