Why Can't We Just Be Friends?
I
Swift Smiles
Cursory nods.
Pleasant greetings
As paths cross.
II
That's all we have.
It's not enough.
My heart aches for more.
Why can't we just be friends?
III
Stolen moments, secret exchanges
Fleeting glimpses, flashes of brown
Or gold
Mere seconds together as we
Push the boundaries of society.
IV
That's all we have
It's all we've ever had
Struggling to conform I know
It's not enough.
My heart aches for more.
V
Why can't we just be friends?
Why do we have to be kept apart
By our age?
