AFTERMATH
By Shane Lutz
He smiles as he walks on by,
And wonders if she's breaking.
She turns her head to the side,
Convinced that he's faking.
He hides his face as they pass each other,
And sees her look away.
She regrets that he ever loved her,
Yet he knows there's nothing left to say.
It comes as no surprise,
That he cannot face the mirror.
She sneers as they lock eyes,
Veiling herself from her fears.
He tells the world he's happy,
And ignores his own despair.
She goes on with her life freely,
Because she doesn't care.
And even though it sounds so cliché,
He says he's finally over her.
While she's trying not to get caught in yesterday,
Because maybe she wished they were lovers.
And now his heart is broken,
Like so many times before.
While she's left fading with the sin,
Telling themselves nothing matters anymore.
