I can still remember all the words
and what they meant
as we etched all our promises
into the wet cement.
The same cement that still
lies beneath our feet.
I still remember all the cold words
that thawed out by heat.
I can still remember the same words
that the wind whispers now.
I remember I said I couldn't cope
when I did somehow.
I remember when we would exchange
sweet gazes and sunshine.
Handed each other stars and beams,
and on them we would dine.
Yes, I do see the cement and miss you,
sometimes, back to the wind I sing.
But I have quit waiting for you back,
for the blasted phone to ring.
I'm so glad I even HAD you,
so now I'm moving on.
I'm going to be happy it happened
instead of regretting that it's gone.
