i wake up in the early morning
to dawn's gentle light painting
faded crimson scratches down my arms;
bruises coloring my pale thighs
violet golden cobalt jade—
my skin a supple canvas,
so easily manipulated and distorted.
a suffocating burden of oil and linseed
weighs down my washed out heart
with every daunting stroke
until the final touches are dabbed,
and the lines smudged—
there's no sin more beautiful than me.
