I Waited
I waited for days to breathe again
When your sun left my world forever
Taking with it your smile and your voice
All the things I ever loved about you.
I waited for months to sleep again
When your moon left my world forever
Taking with it your smells and your touch
All the things I ever loved about you.
I waited for years to live again
When your presence left my world forever
Taking with it my memory of your face
The only thing I ever loved about you.
I waited for days, for months, for years to pass
Before I realized that love of smiles, of voices
That love of smells, of touches, and love of a face
Is not love at all, but a shadow that pretends.
You saw this shadow before I did
And you walked away from my smile and voice,
My smells and my touches, my faceā¦
The only things you ever loved about me.
I was weak to hold on and weaker still to cry
Weak to remember so vividly the day we met.
Weak to wander lost in my own life.
Weaker still to hope I never find my way home again.
