a mouth in the funeral business
swallows cables and
twine; breaks dry
in chalky gasps that
relinquish all too quickly the air they
were so desperate to grasp.
and they make sounds like
gourds falling in
a church.

hollow animals
falling below
statuesque feet,
fading echo worshipping
the marble floors.
