Chapter 2

"Why don't you just make it easier on the both of us and just say what has been bugging you all day?" Van asked swiveling in his chair.

"Van I'm not lying. I have no reason to be." Jason replied as he sat down in his own chair and got out his homework.

"Okay then you won't care if I ask what your dream was about now will you?" Van asked as he leaned back in his chair.

"Why would it matter what it was about?" Jason questioned in return.

"Because you have had weird dreams before and weird things have followed just after." Van justified.

Jason stopped for moment and thought about that. It was true. Weird things always did follow his dreams. "Fine. I'll tell you but you have to promise that you won't think I'm going crazy." Jason said as he looked to Van.

"I doubt it could be that bad." he replied.

"Sure."Jason said before he took a deep breath and began his tale. "I was on my way home from the teen club last night after my shift and I paused at the dumpster near the fenced in alleyway to catch some breath because I had been jogging. I looked down at my shoes and noticed that they had mud all over them and was grumbling over how I should wear sneakers to and from work when someone yelled for me to watch out and then I went flying. When I regained my balance I saw a really weird creature. It seemed to be sizing me up when it was distracted by the person who had told me to watch out and while it was after her I grabbed a lead pipe and tried to help only to be knocked out. When I came to I tried to get answers from her and then I woke up." Jason shrugged as he finished. He hadn't noticed how his brother's expression changed as he told the story.

"And then what?" Van inquired.

"I was here. Isn't that weird?" Jason asked in return.

"I'd say." Van thought for a moment and said "You've been watching horror movies again."

"No I have not!" Jason exclaimed.

"Then how do you explain it?" Van asked as he raised an eyebrow and stood up.

"I don't know. Where are you going?" Jason asked as Van walked toward the door.

"I'm getting snacks." Van answered as he left the room.

"How is he supposed to get a snack when food is prohibited in the dorms?"Jason mumbled to himself.

"You really need to learn that some rules need to be broken." Van said as he re-entered the room and tossed him a water bottle and some chips. Jason rolled his eyes.

"Anyway, happy now? You know why I was distracted now." Jason asked as he took a swig of his water.

"Yes very." Van said with a smile.

Jason looked at the clock in to make sure that they wouldn't be late for work and his eyes widened.

"We're late!" Jason cried as he jumped up and began getting ready for work.

Van blinked before he asked "Late? Late for what?"

"We have work," Jason said as he pulled on his black t-shirt.

Van's eyes widened at this and then he too began to rush around to get ready before the two rushed out the door and down the hall toward the entrance of the dorm.

"Why am I always late when we leave together?" Jason huffed as he ran.

"Because I am a horrible influence," Van huffed back as they entered the alleyway.

Just as they were about to go past the dumpster near the entrance, Jason paused and looked at the ground. In front of him was a scattered amount of blue dust.

Ahead of him Van had stopped and looked back. He looked back at Jason and noticed he was looking at the ground. Following Jason's gaze Van saw the dust and swore under his breath which caught Jason's attention

"What?" Jason asked.

"Nothing. I was just thinking about how much trouble I am going to be in if I'm late again,"Van recovered.

"Well then why are we still standing here?" Jason asked as he took of again.

"Because your on idiot who doesn't know when to leave something alone," Van mumbled as he followed after.

Soon Jason was bursting through the back door of the club.

"Congrats, your late," a blue haired girl clapped.

"Ha ha," Jason replied sarcastically.

"Careful Sam, he's in a tense mood." Van said as he entered the room.

"Oh, and whose fault is that?" Jason asked with a glare.

"I didn't say that it wasn't mine."

As Jason left the room Sam asked "What happened?" but instead of answering Van pulled out his cell and dialed a number.

"Hello?" came a feminine voice from the other side.

"Was Jason attacked yesterday?"

"Van?" the voice asked.

"Just answer the question," Van demanded harshly.

"Yes," came a quiet reply.

"Then why does he remember, if you were there?"

"He remembers?"

"Yes. He thinks it was a dream," Van exhaled slowly to calm himself.

"That's not good."

"What could that mean?"

"It's one of two things. He either is becoming immune or he..." she trailed off.

"What is it Kuu?" Van asked worried.

She took a breath before saying, "Or his abilities are beginning to awaken."

"That can't be."

"Sadly it can. I can come and check."

"Yeah, that's for the best," Van said hanging up.

"What happened?" Sam asked with a serious look.

"He remembers the most recent attack."

"What? How could that be possible? I thought Kuu had that under control," Sam exclaimed.

"That's what I thought too," Van said and then he mumbled, "I was hoping to postpone it for longer."

"Postpone what?" Jason asked from right behind him.

Van jumped and yelled, "Don't do that!"

"That doesn't answer my question," Jason replied with a grin.

"If you must know, I was talking about my English paper," Van lied smoothly. "Why are you sneaking around anyway?"

"I wasn't sneaking. I came back here I order to take care of the mess in the alley. Apparently something broke a bunch of stuff," Jason said as he walked toward the door. "Oh, and you two are needed n the floor. Tim and Terri are out today," and he was gone.

"Why do I have a bad feeling about this?" Sam asked as they entered the club area.

"Because Jason has horrible luck," Van answered as he walked away to start working.

"I wonder why he was lying," Jason mused aloud.

"Who is lying about what?" a girl asked. She had long brown hair that was pulled into a braid. She wore a tight black t-shirt and low riders jeans.

Jason shook his head. 'She looks exactly like the girl in my dream,' he thought. 'Wow isn't that corny. I just met the girl of my dreams.'

"Why are you shaking your head?" she asked.

"Nothing. Just a thought. Who are you?"

"I'm Kuu, a friend of Van Arayto," she answered.

"Oh, okay. He's inside." Jason said as he walked toward the mess.

"I don't want to disturb him while he is working," she said as she followed him to the mess.

"Then I guess you'll have to wait," Jason said as he turned to her. She came to his shoulder.

"What are you doing?" she asked looking past him.

"I'm working on cleaning this up," he said as an answer.

"Can I help while I wait?"

"Um, okay."

Jason was cleaning up the pieces of crates and trash when it began to drizzle. Soon the drizzle became an all out down poor.

"What the hell?" Jason mumbled as he ran under the cover of the back door's awning. Kuu followed after.

"What's going on?" Jason asked as he looked out into the steady down pour.

"I-I don't know," Kuu stuttered on purpose. If Jason had looked back at her he would have noticed that she was pulling a blue dagger from behind her back.

Jason noticed movement from the other side of the alley and took a step forward to investigate. His step was swiped out from under him and he landed on his back. When he looked up there was a creature standing over him. It had slimy hair and boors tusks.

Jason froze. This creature was going to eat him and he knew it. The creature's head tilted down toward him before it screeched out in pain and jumped away from him.

Kuu pulled Jason to his feet and began to push him behind her when she suddenly couldn't move him. She looked up into his face and found him looking back, bewildered.

"What-" Jason began to ask before he was cut off by Kuu being thrown away by one of the creature's tentacles. She slammed against the wall hard.

Jason turned to the creature and something inside him snapped. He suddenly began to speak in a strange language and moving his hands closer together. At the end of his words he pulled his hands apart and there were two blades in them.

The creature stepped back away from the heat that emanated from the blades and Jason attacked. The creature didn't even have the chance to dodge before its head was separated from its body. The body began to disintegrate into red dust before the down pour turned into a drizzle and then down to nothing.

The swords disappeared before Jason fell to his knees while holding his side. The creature may not have dodged but it did get in a hit. Kuu ran over to him.

"Are you okay?" she asked as she kneeled next to him.

"I-I think so," Jason said as he fell forward and Kuu caught him. He was sound asleep.

The back door to the club burst open as Van came running out with Sam behind him. Van ran forward and kneeled in front of her before asking, "Is he okay? What happened?"

"We were attacked," Kuu answered simply as she pushed Jason's hair from his face. "He saved me."

"What?" Sam asked.

"I got distracted and Jason used his abilities for the first time to save me."

All three looked at each other and then at Jason. "What do we do now?" Sam asked.

"We check out and take him back to our room. I am going to have to start explaining tomorrow," Van sighed as he took Jason from Kuu's arms.

"Are you sure you want to explain it to him alone?" Sam asked.

"I know I don't want to, but what other choice do I have?" Van turned to the girls that he had been training with since he was five.

"We tell him together. Tomorrow at Sam's." Kuu said.

Van sighed before asking, "What time?" he knew better than to fight with Kuu. She was their unofficial leader after all.

"One o'clock. Don't be late."

"I won't," Van said as he walked away.
