He speaks of centuries as though they were continents;
as though automobile chases
from the plague-ridden cities were
applicable to our lives -
as though knowing another person
were the same injustice as looking
them in the eye, or vice versa.
We will discuss Russian summers
and Egyptian winters; he will kiss me
atop of forehead and reassure me that nothing will ever change.
