The Ultimate Demigod
I knew she was trouble the first time I laid eyes on her.
We were complete opposites, her name was a French-Italian sort of mix (Ariette "Aria" di Martino) and mine is drab, boring Maggie Knight. She had wavy, bouncy blonde hair; I had limp, brown hair. I had a shirt and jeans on, she had designer clothes all the way to her underwear. And if she wasn't the opposite of me, she was more.
Okay, I'll give you the basics, I'm a thirteen-year-old student at The KREEG School, just outside of Boston. It's a great school, except for the fact that it's a boarding school. Its subjects are a littlie weird though, Greek and Latin instead of Spanish and French. All they teach in History is about Ancient Greece, famous Greeks and little about Early America and Americans. And in gym class, they teach the games played in the Greek Olympics! KREEG isn't exactly the usual school you can find anywhere but it's fun when you get used to it.
Okay, back to my issue. When we got to History class, Mr. McCaughey said he had an announcement.
"Okay, everyone, we have a new student!"
Me? I groaned. Everybody else, they just stared at Aria with smiles on their faces.
"Your name is Ah-ri-et di Martino?" asked our History teacher.
"It's pronounced Ar-yey, sir. And you can call me Aria." she said brightly. And even if she had a French-Italian name, her accent was pure American.
"You can take a seat beside Maggie Knight. Over there in the middle." said our teacher.
"Thanks Mr. Mc-C!" Aria brightly said.
Groan again. I heard her designer heels clicking on the wooden floor. But I saw something suspicious. She was holding an envelope with her name on it. I've seen those envelopes before, and I noticed those people who got them always looked like they had something to hide. Something was up with Aria, and I was going to find out.
I felt like the UN-luckiest girl in the world. I was one of the only students in KREEG who stayed in her own dorm room. And then Headmaster Collins assigned Aria with me. I was okay with the cream-colored walls. I was okay with the lumpy pillows. And I was okay with the sounds of the rats coming from the ceiling. But I was not okay with all her stuff and the fact that she was there.
"Okay, thank you!" said Aria to the star struck guy who offered to carry her luggage from the front entrance to the room.
"Mmmphh" replied the guy, still staring at her.
"Hi Maggie!" she exclaimed.
"Hey." I reply. She was dumb to think that I would fall for her nice act.
"Do you mind if I take up a little more space. I have a lot of stuff over here. "
Her cell phone started ringing.
"Excuse me. I have to answer this." she said while running out of the room.
I saw the envelope on her desk. Empty. I scanned the floor for her letter. I found it under her desk. It said:
Dear Ms. Aria di Martino,
Welcome to KREEG! We hope you will enjoy your studies and your training here. Training is usually held at 11:00 pm. Just enter the gym and look for the circles on the floor under the bleachers. Step on any of them, and the circle will move down, leading to the training grounds. Please be reminded that these special elevators will only work from 10:50 until 11:10 if you are going to the training grounds; and from 1:50 to 2:10 if you are going back to the dorms. And also, training will be called special meetings during normal class hours to not reveal this to some of our students. Thank you!
Mr. S. Collins,
Headmaster of KREEG
I don't know what this was about, but I was waking up at 10: 55, just to find out.
