A/N: I don't think you're ever gonna read this, but this is dedicated to you, the person who suddenly came into my life and turned it into a huge mess. If I hadn't met you, my life would be so much simpler now.
Anyway, to readers, hello, I hope you enjoy this little oneshot. :) Please R&R, because I'm planning to submit this to our school paper for a literary portfolio, so I'd like to hear opinions on this. Thanks! Enjoy.
Faith and Trust
"Why do you always do this to me?! It's like you don't even try anymore!" She exclaims angrily into the microphone.
"I do." He answers into his mic nonchalantly.
"Yeah, right." She scoffs and pulls her hair away from her face.
"I do try." He repeats without so much as looking into the webcam, while his monotone voice drones over to her earphones.
"Yeah, I so believe you." She rolls her eyes into her webcam, as she tries not to be too loud. "I bet you're not even paying attention. I bet you're just Farmville-ing again, aren't you?!"
He doesn't respond, and his eyes don't even look up into the lens.
A sigh.
"I invited you to three events already." She said, her voice getting a little softer."And you blew me off each and every time." She sighed in exasperation.
"It's not my fault I was busy." He said, finally looking at her, his voice gaining some life.
"Well, you could've at least told me you were busy, so I wouldn't have stood around, waiting for nothing like a fool." She huffs in annoyance.
"Okay, maybe that was my bad." He says uncaringly.
"MAYBE?! Like hell it was!" She finally explodes.
"Hey, stop right there!" He raises his voice as well. "I have no obligation to you whatsoever you know!"
Another sigh.
"I miss who you were last year. At least then, you actually had the decency to care!" She says with a tired sounding voice.
"Well, I moved. Things change! I have my own life!" He shouts angrily at her.
Silence.
"And here I thought you actually cared about us. About me."
With that, she clicks the 'x' button, ending their video call.
She groans into her stuffed panda angrily. Why was he so… impossible?! He just didn't understand what those events meant to her, did he?
He sighs. He didn't mean to snap at her. He knew she got hurt easily, and being the older one of the two, he knew he had to be the better person. But he didn't expect something so trivial to get so out of hand.
She huffs in annoyance before Tweeting out her anger.
He opens his instant messenger.
She is ready to click the 'Tweet' button, when a ringing noise, accompanied by a small window at the bottom right of her screen, disrupts her.
She sighs before accepting the call. "What?"
"I'm sorry." He sighs. "I guess I haven't really been the best of friends huh?" He looks away, then continues before she can say a word. "I want to make it up to you. Your birthday is coming soon, right?"
"Yeah, but it's on a Tuesday." She states flatly.
"Tuesday's my free day. I'll be there, I promise." He smiles.
"Sure." She forces a smile. She didn't want to have false hopes that would only be shattered once more.
"Oh come on, have a little faith in me!" He jokes in an attempt to lighten the mood.
"Alright…" She says with an evident tone of hesitation. "I trust you." She smiles.
…
The weeks fly by, and her sweet sixteenth arrives. Her friends arrange a simple party for her at lunch time, with pizza, cake, and two friends with permitted cameras on the scene.
She enjoys her time with them so much that she doesn't realize lunch time is quickly passing by. They hurriedly pack away and run to their next class, as not to be late.
The day progresses normally, except with people greeting her every now and then.
At the end of the day, she has dinner with her family, goes through their celebration status quo, and returns home, almost ready to end the day.
She slumps over on her desk and checks her Facebook to thank the people that had greeted her, when she comes across one certain greeting.
"hey, happy birthday! Sorry I wasn't able to come. I was busy."
She stared at it for a while, completely speechless.
What. The. Hell.
He missed her birthday, broke his promise, and that was all he could say?
Screw him then!
She clicks his name to go to his profile, sends her reply, then finally, goes to sleep.
He looks at the reply, blinks a few times, tries to think of something to answer, fails, then gets up to relieve his stress the way he always does. By smoking.
She shifts her weight on the bed and sighs, before chastising herself for believing in him, for trusting in him, and now for crying over the inevitable. She wipes her tears away, before forcing herself to sleep, with the help of her iPod.
'He never cared about you. Why are you crying? You knew this was going to happen.'
She wipes her tears one more time, picks her favorite sad song on her iPod, and faces the wall, attempting to reach her dreamland.
He tosses the cigarette butt into the ashtray, and returns to his laptop. Again, he looks at the reply, and still, he is stumped. Maybe, for once, no answer would be the best answer after all.
"Now where have I heard that line before? I guess faith and trust just aren't as reliable as they used to be, huh? :) Thanks."
End.
A/N: There you go. Actually, I don't understand myself. There was never anything between us. So why am I always so affected by the things he does? I need some rest.
