An orchard grew yellow flowers

these two headed demons on a canvas

that sprawled their vines in the soil

rooting beneath the sunlight,

hiding their limbs from radiant eyes

Their shy pedals draped the foreground

covered the grass with a veil

lazy in a mellow accord

between day and night

By dusk the earth sunk

trees, fences, homes all massing in a grave

like minced meat on a cutting board

At dawn there rose a sun

and carrion bloom

New days, new days

yellow flowers at bay!

who's pedals flourished

sprung up in the moment

before it's rotting,

uprooting limbs touched the sky

A skeptic's optimism

laid awake that day

nurturing like the gardener

who'd sprinkle our rapture
