At school last year we were given a chance to tell people they rule by sending them little notes. There was a big wall in the cafeteria full of envelopes that belonged to every student. I gave notes to a lot of people. In one day, many people's envelopes were flooded with notes. For the first week, mine was empty. But when the last day came I guess the people who knew me noticed and felt bad. Five people. Two of them were teachers who gave notes to every student. So technically it was only three people. And only one was really a friend rather than an acquaintance (my lack of social skills causes people to give up on talking to me). But that single note was so simple and so meaningful to me. I'm holding it in my hand and typing it out word for word: "You are funny, loving, and kind. Don't listen to what other people say because you are intelligent and you are fine just the way you are. Keep smiling." To this day, that short, simple note is the absolute nicest thing anyone has ever said to me. It reminded me that no matter how lonely I was, I would never be alone. She's moved away to a different state and I haven't seen her since. I never even got a chance to say goodbye, sadly. But I've never forgotten her, and every time I feel alone, I remember what she wrote to me. Sometimes it almost brings tears to my eyes. And one day, when I recalled those words, this song came to me. I think that she may have suffered some isolation herself. It can be hard to realize these things, because they never tell you. Because they're scared. I never told anyone how I really felt, because I was scared. But I've always wanted to reach out to those people who feel like no one cares. So this song is for all those people. And if you're that friend who I'll never forget, this is especially for you. I love you and I miss you and I hope you're having a good life where you are now.
