Homework always makes me get to bed really really late. And at 11:30, when I go up to my room, it's dark. And even though I can see just fine, I still feel like I have to run up to my room quickly so I can turn a light on. That's always the scariest part of my day. Running up to my room in the dark, always looking behind me to make sure nothing's there. So a few nights ago, when I ran up to my room and turned on the light and shut the door, trembling in fear, I wondered just why the dark scared me so much, why it scares everyone so much. Then came this song.
Never Too Old to be Scared of the Dark
Walk faster with every step
Before it can catch me
Soon I find I'm running
Can't let it get me
My heart begins pounding out of my chest
Keep running away from death
There must be a reason we're born with this fear
Can't see what's behind me, don't know what draws near
Lock the door quickly, don't let it in
Silence and emptiness soon will begin
Hurry now, run before nightmares can start
You're never too old to be scared of the dark
Screaming for no one to hear
What am I afraid of?
Cry out as is surrounds me
Not much I'm made of
Can't get away from it, can't catch my breath
The shadows are melting my flesh
There must be a reason we're born with this fear
Can't see what's behind me, don't know what draws near
Lock the door quickly, don't let it in
Silence and emptiness soon will begin
Hurry now, run before nightmares can start
You're never too old to be scared of the dark
I can't find a light anywhere
I look behind me and no one's there
That's just what terrifies me
There must be a reason we're born with this fear
Can't see what's behind me, don't know what draws near
Lock the door quickly, don't let it in
Silence and emptiness soon will begin
Hurry now, run before nightmares can start
You're never too old to be scared of the dark
