High School: A Collection

Let It Rain PM
Bittersweet years recently left behind. This is a small collection of poems that I've dug up that directly correlate with my high school experience -- most were written while I wasn't interacting with my classmates.

Graph paper: sky of mindless pencil scratches.
Erase the little failures and redo : skip, skip, try again

to turn the homework in.
On time or late, doesn't matter
in this place.

Bell rings too late. Mind already an unsalvageable chunk
of waste matter. My own mad hatter,
you horseshoe around the subject. You take me too lightly
on serious days. We forget graduating; forget college which is only a few years away;
we sleep when the teacher isn't looking and dream
of numbers and faces that don't exist.

And the dreams are long because they can be;
they are long because two hours of porn culminated in
ten minutes of bored masturbation last night.
Dry. The dream takes us deep into the
subconscious mind where we discover
caterpillars that act like the kids who skip first period
in the junior lot and rabbits like the kids
who are always in detention for tardiness
and girls so sweet you wonder
who they're fucking and why.
