there once lived a girl who was dead

and she lived her death laying on her stomach with her chin in her palm

looking over a ledge

wondering if anything interesting was ever going to happen.

...

some people who were

adventurous enough

climbed up the ledge and talked to her

and they were usually very nice and she liked most of them

but none of them ever stayed very long.

...

then one day a new girl came and stood at the bottom of her ledge

and shouted up, "Hello!"

so the dead girl shouted, "Hello," back. "Why don't you come up so we can talk?"

"Why don't you come down?"

"I can't," said the dead girl, "I'm dead."

...

the girl thought about this and said, "That's a silly reason."

so she thought of a plan and climbed up to tell the dead girl

and she whispered her plan in the dead girl's ear:

"I'll carry you."

...

then the dead girl woke up from her dream

and peered cautiously over the edge and saw the girl walking by

so, step by careful step, she made her way down

and chased after her.
