A/N: Oh my god, it's the voice of TheFateKeeper! Alert the U.N. Security Council, someone's just gone and created a new world order!
Hey guys, you're probably freaking out right now. This is my first ever author's note on anything. I just wanted to tell you I'm still alive, and I'm sorry if any of you died of old age while waiting for this update. I had kind of given up on this story because I'd already written the ending and didn't know what to do with the middle, but I'm going to try to finish it as best I can. I didn't want to leave you guys on a total cliffhanger without you getting to know the characters better first. If I did leave you on a cliffhanger, I'd do it when you were hooked on the story. (Because I'm just a really mean person.)
Speaking of my story, my rant is over now. Here you go:
"Well." I clear my throat. "Magic could be useful, I suppose." I look around in the dim light of a spare candle and take in our surroundings for the first time. It's not much; a few boxes of food, some wood, etc.
Suddenly I get an idea. "Jess, do you think you could find someone with your magic?"
He shrugs, but it looks strange, for his face has returned to its emotionless mask. "I'll try." Then realization dawns on him. "I'm not finding Catherine, Orin. I can't."
I shake my head. "That's not who I need to find. I'll explain later."
Hesitantly, I move towards the door, my hand outstretched.
I turn around to see Amaly holding a piece of wood and the candle. "Light this. For protection." He explains.
I nod and take them. "Good idea." Slowly, I grasp the latch of the door and pull. I wait a few seconds, then, sensing everything is clear, step outside.
Once we're outside, I turn to Jess. "Can you try it here?"
He nods, but doesn't move. He shifts uncomfortably, then says, "I think I need something the person has touched."
I think for a moment, then pull off the amulet I wear around my neck and hand it to him. "Will this do?"
"I guess we'll find out." He says, and then pauses uncertainly. "Who are you looking for?"
"His name is Kay. I think he can explain some things."
"Orin, whoever you knew then might not be alive anymore." Ariel says from behind me.
"He's still alive. Trust me." I say.
Jess closes his eyes and concentrates on the amulet. "Ábeþecian." He whispers. I don't recognize the language.
His eyes fly open and he stares at me. "I found him. Except..."
"What?" I ask.
He shakes his head. "It's weird though, where he is. But I can still get you there."
"Good." I say. "Lead the way."
Charlie looks surprised. "We're leaving now?"
I nod. "There's no time to lose."
A/N: So I think I'm going to start adding fun facts, like AG91 does.
Fun fact: Kay did not exist until I wrote this chapter. I'm pretty sure he'll play a big part in it, so keep your eyes peeled for him.
Fun fact: The language Jess speaks when he does magic is Old English (don't ask; I'm not entirely sure myself). You'll be seeing more of it soon.
