yesterday, i carved your face out of
coffee froth and wednesday mornings
just so I could lace my rusted fingertips
around the swirling scent

a week ago, i pretended that we were
a couple of lucky lovers
stranded on this kitchen island

where we inhaled salt and citrus
until tiled waves collapsed
and pulled us back to these
furnace warmed floor boards

later, we cooked kisses for breakfast
whilst bending sunlight fractured wrists
and seizing up those damned captive hearts
gripped like jarred tokens in our pockets

today, this train wreck of ecstasy
set our veins on fire and
the neon embers dye this horizon
the colour of inescapable twilight
