Beep beep beep. I reached my hand out and moved it around until I found my alarm clock. I pulled the covers over my head and attempted to go back to sleep until I heard some stumbling. Damn, I thought as I got out of bed.
I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes as I lazily made my way to the stairs. I braced myself as I grabbed him by the armpits. I began my morning ritual and pulled my brother Jason up the stairs and dragged his unconscious body to his bedroom. I looked at his bed and I looked at him. Screw it, I'm too tired today, I thought. I grabbed his pillow and put it under his head and dropped him. I stepped around him and went back to my room to get ready for school.
When I was ready I went downstairs and I saw my dad. He was dressed in a suit and tie, as usual. He nodded a stiff greeting and stopped at the door before leaving for his job as mayor.
"Did you get Jason?" He asked gruffly. I nodded and he returned the nod, disappearing through the door.
"How bad was he, sweetie?" my mother asked in her heavy French accent as I put on my backpack.
"About the same as always," I said, shrugging. "At least there wasn't any vomit this time. However, you will have to clean up some beer stains."
"It's okay, sweetheart. Things will change, I promise." My mother kissed my cheek and handed me a gift. "Now go make that girl's day," she said smiling. I took the gift and went next door to my girlfriend's house.
"Hi, Grant," she said. When she turned to me, she said, "ooh, is the bag for me?" She reached out for the gift and I used my free hand to block her from it. I set it up high where she couldn't reach it and I held both of her hands.
"You can't have that yet." I gave her a quick peck on the lips and grinned at her. "Before you get to open that, we're going on an adventure." She raised an eyebrow laughed.
"An adventure? What kind of adventure?" I grinned and grabbed the bag, putting it in my backpack
"Close your eyes." She began to protest, but I put one arm around her waist and the other over her eyes. I walked her outside and stopped in her driveway. When I uncovered her eyes, she gave me a confused expression.
"I don't get it." I laughed and held her hand.
"Don't you remember? This is where you were standing seven years ago when you moved into this house and I fell in love with you." She gave me a strange look and laughed.
"You were ten. You can't fall in love at ten."
"Lies! I saw you and I thought 'damn, I'm going to marry that beautiful girl'." She raised an eyebrow and laughed again. "Okay, so I didn't think that. But I did think you were pretty and I stared at you awkwardly until you saw me and waved. Then I ran inside." She laughed again until I covered her eyes. "Come on, this adventure isn't over." I walked to her mailbox and uncovered her eyes again.
"Okay, what's this one?"
"This where you were standing the first time we ever talked." I took her to a few more sentimental places before finally stopping in my kitchen. My mom gave me an odd look and I grinned, gesturing for her to leave. She shook her head with a smile and disappeared into another room. I uncovered Ellie's eyes and she smiled.
"I know what this one is. We first kissed here, first said 'I love you' here, and first became an official couple here." She smiled and kissed me. "This one is my favorite."
"Mine, too. This is also the place where I first gave you a gift for Valentine's day." I took the bag from my backpack and gave it to her. As she excitedly opened it, her eyes widened and she smiled brightly. She took the golden necklace out of the small box it was in and she placed it around her neck.
"Grant, this is beautiful!"
"I hoped you would say that." I placed my hands around her waist and pulled her close. "You see, I bought that heart necklace so technically it's my heart. And since I gave it to you, technically I just gave you my heart." She laughed and pulled me closer.
"You're so sweet," she paused before adding, "in a cheesy kind of way."
"Happy Valentine's day, Ellie," I said chuckling. "Sometimes, things can get pretty stressful, but that goes away the moment I see you."
"I know things have been rough for you lately and I'm glad to be of help. Things will get better with Jason." She was about to say something else, but I silenced her with a kiss.
"Talking about him doesn't make me happy; being with you does." I gave her one last kiss before taking her to the car for school. I may have had a rough morning, but my day will be fine. It always is as long as I'm with Ellie.
So, even though I hate Valentine's day, happy Valentine's day! If you don't read my stuff, then you wouldn't know that I use the same cast of characters for most of my stories. My newest stories starting with the Pool Party have this cast of characters. If you do read my stuff, I'm working on chapter two of Snow Day, just so you know.
Anyway, I'm posting this a day early because I don't want my story to get lost in the expected romance V day stories that will pop up tomorrow. Enjoy!
