Duties of the Heart
Soundtrack
This is not a new chapter but a list of the songs that were my inspirations during writing this story. I've compiled them together and in brackets beside each one I've written what their purpose was and if there was a specific scene where they were involved. I DO NOT OWN ANY of these songs, they all belong to the talents who wrote/sing them and I in no way make money from this, just thought it would be a nice thing for anybody who has read the story to see.
SPOILERS for the main story so don't read unless you've read the story.
1. May I - Trading Yesterday (Alexander can see that Jane loses herself sometimes and that the smile she has is, at times, fake. He wishes to take all that away from her so that she doesn't feel that lost. Main theme of story)
2. Crossfire - Brandon Flowers (More of an atmosphere song, but could relate to the battle between good and evil, being 'caught in the crossfire between heaven and hell')
3. Shattered - Trading Yesterday (Alexander has lost all he had ever been taught and believed in literally overnight and in a short space of time. He knows he must rise up against it if there is to be a hope of a bright future)
4. Keep Holding On - Avril Lavigne (General song for sticking together and holding on despite everything that will overcome them)
5. Many of Horror - Biffy Clyro (Again more of an atmosphere song, rather than anything pertaining to lyrics. However 'I'll take a bruise I know you're worth it, when you hit me hit me hard' could pertain to the relationship that Luke and Sarah have where they constantly bicker or to Alexander and his devotion to Jane towards the climax of the story; taking anything that comes his way, for her)
6. At The Beginning - Donna Lewis & Richard Marx (Love theme, lyrics speak for itself. Two strangers (Alexander and Jane) beginning on a journey together and eventually falling in love with one and another)
7. Collide - Howie Day (More of an atmospheric song to show the development in both relationships; Jane and Alexander and Sarah and Luke)
8. Half a World Away - R.E.M (During the period where Alexander is believed dead, this conveys how everyone, Jane, Luke, Sarah feel about their fallen companion and also shows how Alexander feels half a world away from things he can't exactly remember due to his memories being wiped clean)
9. Focus - Emma's Imagination (In an unseen moment in the story Jane gives up and allows Arianna to take over, because she is threatened with Sarah and Luke dying in front of her at Lunus' hand, the same way she believes that Alexander has met his 'death'. The line 'and I know you're right behind me in everything I do' relates to how, although she believes him to be dead, Jane is aware Alexander will see her give him but that she must do it)
10. It's All Coming Back To Me Now - Meat Loaf & Marion Raven (Alexander losing his memories and them gradually returning back to him, due to his strong bond with Jane, Sarah and Luke and the familial bond between himself and his mother's family)
11. What Hurts the Most - Rascal Flatts (Following Jane's death Alexander has to deal with what to do without her around and how to move on, knowing everything they could have had if she hadn't died for him)
12. Change - Taylor Swift (Cheery song how there is the belief that once the Sorceresses are gone that everything will change and that even if there isn't many of them to fight against them they'll give it their best shot)
