Yo. I would like to say a couple points.
1. I mainly write fanfiction, not original.
2. I like dialogue more than details and sometimes my stories/chapters show that.
3. I am an 8th grader who happens to be failing language arts and hates spellcheck. I'm gonna mess up. Tell me, and when I can, will fix it.
4. The most words in a chapter are gonna be 2,000. I'm still working on making things longer.
Hope you enjoy. :)
The Chronicles of Sicarius Nex- Chapter 1
"My name is Sicarius Nex and I am a shifter.
The first shifter was a man by the name of Verto. His father had been friends with a kindly old wolf. When Verto's father had saved the wolf, the wolf said he would grant the father one wish. The father wished that his son would remind him of his old wolf friend. Many years past and the father had found a wife. On the night Verto was born, a hunter shot the wolf in the heart with an arrow. The wolf had mistaken the hunter for the father and had gotten angry. On it's last dying breath the wolf made the father's wish come true. On every full moon, the son, Verto, transformed into a hideous beast, a werewolf, and would be terrorized.
Throughtout the years, shifter DNA has changed and evolved. There are different types of species. Most common happen to be wolves and other wild dogs.
The rare are lions and other types of cats.
No longer are the shifters beasts when they transform but they actually depict the animal they represent. A male hawk shifter can find his mate with a female snake shifter and they can reproduce a horse shifter.
Shifters will have one mate their entire lives, a soul mate if you will. They are meant to be together.
Shifters can change anytime they wish to. They don't need a full moon to change, though the full moon is when it is least painful to change so many do change into their animal then.
Shifters live twice as log as normal humans but they can still be killed with basic things, it's just they heal faster so more damage would need to happen upon them for them to truly die.
Shifters have one enemy, as cliche as it is; their enemy is the vampire.
Vampires, much like shifters, are portrayed as blood-sucking monsters. Different versions change the vision of the vampire. Some believe vampires sparkle, some believe vampires don't burn in the sun or that holy water doesn't affect them.
Some of these points, like with the holy water, aren't true. While others, like with the sun, are only half true.
Vampires only need to drink blood to keep strength up. They can live on human food if they so wished but the longer they don't drink some sort of blood the weaker they get and the bigger chance of them going on a bloody war path.
Holy water does not hurt vampires in anyway, though the sun can. Vampires can step out into the sun but they must have some protection for their skin unless they wish to be baked a gold brown and then burst into a rainbow of different colored flames.
While shifters live in packs (their family), vampires live in covens. Most of the time vampires live with other vampires that they are not related to because most vampires are created not born. The only chance a vampire can be born is when two purebloods find a mate within eachother and reproduce another prueblood.
A loud beel filled the classroom where Sicarius was giving his oral report.
A scrawny woman with mousy brown hair and dull brown eyes glanced at the clock before sighing. "Sorry , I'm afraid class is over for today. You can finish tomorrow."
A boy with shoulder length black hair that contained neon pink streaks and had silver eyes nodded. "Yes Ms. Mayberry."
Sicarius walked back to his desk, avoiding colliding with one of his classmates. He opened the folder on his desk and quickly shoved his report into it. He closed and turned before exiting the room.
He strutted down the isle, listening to his fellow classmates pointless chatter of what they were going to do over the weekend. He rolled his eyes as he tuned them out.
Once he reached his locker, number 411, he entered his combination into his lock before opening the locker door and dragging his feather light backpack out. He shover the folder into his bag and closed the door and snapped the lock shut. He pulled on it once to make sure it was secure before turning and coming face to face with a wide-eyed girl.
The girl's long golden locks were tied in pigtails and her blue eyes were wide and excited. "Ari!"
Sicarius gave the girl a look and walked on, knowing she would follow him. "Yes, Abby?"
Abby scurried after Sicarius and replied, "Those vampire exchange students are going to be arriving tomorrow. I got an e-mail from Joss, he's already at Loki Academy."
At the mention of the third person in their trio Sicarius asked, "He already get in trouble?"
Abby nodded and smiled. "Yep. Has detention during his first week of school there."
Sicarius smirked lightly. He could picture their brown haired friend sneaking into the girl's bathroom using his shifter animal, a rat. "Congrats to him then, yes?"
Abby nodded merrily. "Ya! So, what do you think the students are going to be like?"
Sicarius thought carefully. The school had sent over two of the strongest shifters and one of the weakest. "Maybe they'll play it safe like we did. Who knows?"
Abby nodded in agreement. "I can see it. I hope Joss can defend himself though. He's really to weak to protect himself."
Sicarius snorted. "And your any better, Bugs?"
Abby's face turned a nice shade of pink and she huffed. "I am, Tweety!"
Sicarius narrowed his eyes and glared at his friend. Ever since he had discovered that Abby's animal was a rabbit he had resorted to teasing her. Of course, to get back at him Abby called him Tweety. It was a very large insult to his ego as he was a panther shifter. Not some little yellow bird with huge orange feet.
"Don't like it, do ya?"
Sicarius continued to glare at his friend before smirking. "Aahhh, what's up Doc?"
Abby's blue eyes narrowed and she stuck out her tongue. "Go fall of a cliff."
Sicarius shook his head. "No thanks, I'm already scheduled to fall in a ditch this afternoon."
"Oh ya? Who beat me to the punch?"
Abby snorted. "Someone needs to find a way to get the stick out of his arse."
"Stop trying to sound british and say what you meant. Ass."
"Look, either way he has a stick up it, so who cares how we say it?" Sicarius stated, annoyed with going back and forth.
"True. Anyway, Lars is so stupid. I mean, have you seen his red hair? He looks like a lepricon! And he is such a show off! It's so creepy how is eyes follow you. Everyone knows his yellow eyes are totally fake! What color do you think they really are? I voted puke green or dung brown. Maybe even-"
"Oh, a joke! Who's there?"
Abby's mouth gaped open before she shut it and started to pout. "You're so mean, Ari!"
Sicarius rolled his eyes and snorted. "Never said I was nice, now did I?"
Abby huffed and picked up her pace. She turned and started walking backwards as she continued to talk to Sicarius. "So, big bad panther, what do you have planned for the weekend?"
Sicarius shrugged. "My mum's paying me to cook over the weekend." Sicarius' mum had bought a huge house when she had married his father. Once his dad had passed on his mum had kept the house but she would often get lonely while he was at school. After a while she let her friends stay there for a couple days or a couple weeks with rent. Everntually it turned into a motel of sorts.
Sicarius nodded. "Yep. Apparently those exchange students are gonna be there as well as some shifters and humans so she's paying me tripple the normal amount to keep everyone satisfied with their food."
Abby nodded. "Understandable. Try not to scare them with your awesomeness, will ya?"
Sicarius snorted and waved goodbye to Abby as she ran to her parent's car that sat waiting by the curb.
Sicarius watched Abby and her parents drive away before turning and pulling a small orange phone out of his jacket pocket. Dialing a number he waited a few moments before pressing send and continued walking. He put the cell phone to his ear and smiled when Joss' voice rang from it.
"Dear God, Joss!"
"Ari! Sorry dude, my moms called me like every ten minutes and I thought it was her again. What's up?"
"Abby told me you arrived at L Academy."
"Ya! I've already met my roommate."
"Really? What;s his name?
"You heard me! Headmaster thinks that no rational vampire girl would be interested in a shifter guy so they let us board with them since they only had extra rooms in the girl's dorm."
"You luck bastard!"
"Ha! I think I'm lucky. You would probably beg them not to put you near something that could give you cooties."
Sicarius busted out laughing and looked both ways before crossing the street to reach his house. "Not my fault chicks give me the heebygeebeez."
Sicarius heard Joss snort. "Ya, ya, ya. Not all of us are gay."
Sicarius shook his head. "Enough about my sexual orientation. Give me the info on your roommate.'
Sicarius heard and muffled squeal of 'Ow!' He pulled the phone away from his ear when a crashing sound followed. He put it back and asked, "Joss?"
"Who is this?"
Sicarius contemplated hanging up but decided against it. "You dickhead's roommate?"
The girl paused before answering. "Maybe."
Sicarius rolled his eyes at the girl's sharp tone and opened the front door to his house. "Look hun," Sicarius stated in an overly-gay voice. "Tell Jossy that Ari will miss him." He quickly shut his phone and put it in his pocket.
He stepped into his house and shouted, "Mum! I'm home!"
"In the kitchen!"
He walked over to the coat rack and dropped his backpack in the front before hanging his coat up and turning around.
"Uff!" Sicarius fell backwards but caught himself on the off-white wall beside him. He blinked before looking up. He found himself staring at a 6'2'' white haired man with startling purple eyes. Sicarius was a little sad that he barely reached the guy's chin.
"Uh..." Sicarius continued to stare up at the god- man!- when his mum poked her head out of the kitchen door.
Sicarius broke his stare off with the man and turned to look at his mother. "Yes?"
His mother walked out of the kitchen whiping her delecate hands in a pale blue rag. "I see you've met Mendax."
Sicarius glanced at the guy and couldn't help but raise his eyebrow at the meaning of his name. "Liar?"
Mendaz gave a surprised look before a devilish smirk fell upon his face. "Yes."
Sicarius felt a blush start to spread over his face so he turned back toward his mother. "Is he one of those?"
His mother glanced at Mendax and nodded. "Yes."
Sicarius nodded once before walking past his mother, toward the stairs. "Abby and I are going to the park."
He had stepped onto the first step when his mum grabed his arm. He turned and looked at her. "Yes?"
"Why don't you take Mendax and the other two with you? Show them the neighborhood?"
Sicarius stared into his mother's brown eyes before slowly nodding. "Ya. Sure. Where are the others?"
"They're up in their rooms. I will go get them." Mendax's voice drifted from behind him.
Sicarius spun around, wide-eyes and came face to face with the vampire. "How did-"
"Speed, of course." A smirk came over Mendax's face before he turned and headed up the stairs. He turned down the right hallway and disappeared from sight.
Sicarius continued to stare at the spot Mendax had once stood when his mother chuckled he turned and glared at her. "What?"
She giggled and waggled her eyebrows in a suggestive manner before twirling around and heading back toward the kitchen.
Sicarius huffed and trudged up the stairs, wondering what he had gotten himself into.
