A small note: I had written this poem on my best friend's 15th birthday. I should have written something related to birthday. I don't know why I wrote this. But anyhow, she liked it and so did her family so it doesn't matter (lol). Read and review!

The Yellow Crayon

She stepped inside the classroom-

A girl with shoulder length hair,

Carrying a brown-red bag,

And a 'Tom & Jerry' water bottle

Thirty-five creatures clothed in blue

Whispered among themselves,

Gazed at her and wondered-

Who is she?

She stood near the bulletin,

She was calm and silent

New place, new class pals and new teachers

New black board, new desks and new books-

All of them seemed,

Seemed so sophisticated for her

Taking in a deep breathe,

She clenched her lips

She gave a minute's self preface,

Looked around to find a place-

This desk or that desk?

Ms. Teacher who noticed her dilemma,

Pointed an empty seat next to mine

She walked over to the desk beside me,

Exchanged smiles but not a word

Maintained a session of silence-

She was silent, I was silent

It was awkward but habitual

Lying on the floor was a small piece of crayon-

A yellow crayon

At that moment I wasn't aware-

Of it being the messenger of friendship

She picked it up and interrogated-

Is it yours?

I looked at her and then looked at it,

Nodded my head to say 'No'

Soon she found the helpless crayon's owner,

And obviously achieved a 'thank you'

I realized I was being unfriendly

And a reflex it was, I said-

Let's get to know each other

She looked at me and put on a smile

Told about her family and her life

Minutes passed without us being aware

Helping her with the notes was a promise I gave

Became best friends with the passage of time-

I and her

Blabbering crazily, laughing like idiots

Playing pranks on each other

And then playing the verse of 'sorry'

Today after many years,

We are still the same

Now I have just one thing to say-

Dear bestie,

Once it was 'Let's get to know each other'

Now it is 'Let's be best friends forever'
