I wanted to watch the skies grow dark
Just once before I was dead
And so I walk the lonely streets
As the sun begins to set
Lamps illuminate the road
That I trample under me
The wind throws deadened leaves
From the branches of their trees
I wanted to watch the skies grow dark
Just once before I was dead
And so I found a park bench
And lay down to rest my head
Streetlights flicker and finally glow
Ruining the beauty of the night
Yet still I stay in my seat
To watch the glorious sight
I wanted to watch the skies grow dark
Just once before I was dead
And so I asked the sun politely
If it would go to bed
Cars fly past with zooming sounds
Throwing headlights in my face
But one slows down beside me
Crunching gravel in its place
I wanted to watch the skies turn dark
Just once before I was dead
But from the car came some men
That shot me in my head
Disappointed voices reach my ears
As my possessions are ripped from me
I can't believe they would kill
For my dollar twenty-three
I wanted to watch the skies grow dark
Just once before I was dead
And so I lay alone in the streets
As the sun begins to set
Bloody and broken I watch
As lights around me dim
My innocent wishful thinking
Turns to another's violent sin
Tonight I watched the skies grow dark
Before they found me dead
