Love, pt. III
All of my teenage years, I have professed to be knowledgeable
In the areas of relationships, love and of romance
But I am far from perfect or all-knowing,
None but the Creator can claim that lofty title
I can tell you, however, with total certainty
That the song writers, the bards, the poets,
Their lofty, idealistic view of love does exist.
My life is testament to that,
And to the struggles you must overcome
To earn that love
Those who know me will find
This hard to swallow, to believe
But I did not always believe in love,
Certainly not with the zealotry you have seen.
No, no, I was once a cynic, at an age
Far too young to be so doubtful
But one day, all that changed,
Turned my whole world on its head,
I shifted from the unceasing cynic,
To the hopeless and idealistic believer,
You have surely seen in me
You who know my past, you will recognize
The time when my life changed, as I
Have spent my days thanking Him for it all
And for the girl responsible for that shift
What I've learned is this, it is simple.
True love never dies, it never fades away.
Whether time and distance separate you,
Or pain and betrayal drives its hard wedge between you,
Or death takes them from you,
Your love will still remain, forever and always,
Burning in the confines,
In the deep, forgotten recesses of your heart
Love remains the same
