Summer Fling
We walked across the sand hand in hand leaving a trail behind us.
We talked and dreamed about a life together.
I didn't think our summer together would end
You said time was moving so fast
That you wish this summer would always last
That you didn't want to let me go
I thought you meant from your hold
You held me tight and I laughed
I didn't know what I had was counting down the days of summer
I guess I was stuck in the moment
I didn't pick up on all the hints
All the times I called and you didn't answer
All the times I inbox you on facebook and never got a reply
I thought you were busy
But you were just doing that to prepare me for what was coming up
You took me by the hand and told me we needed to talk
I smiled warmly not knowing that, that day was the last day of our walking hand in hand across the sand
You said it was the end of summer and it's the end of us
You said you had fun that you enjoyed being with me
But now school is right around the corner and so we should start the new year fresh
I pretended like I understood what you said but in my head I was screaming WHAT'S GOING ON!
You kissed my forehead and I felt like Bella when Edward left her
I just knew she had it better since he lied to her and they ended up living happily after
But I knew you were not lying when you walked away leaving your foot prints in the sand to be washed away
And I didn't know what we had was a summer fling
But like the ocean washed away our past
They carried my tears with them
