I knew you for a while
I didn't think you cared for me
You were so much better
Always had the right words to say
Always knew what was going on

Who knew you were the same?
You thought I didn't care
I guess I should have known
Going out with your best friend
Didn't help my chances

I said the wrong thing
An inside joke gone too far
There was only one thing I could do-
I told you I loved you
The smile on your face made it all worth it

You said you loved me too
That you'd waited years for me to say it
We were both in the dark so long
But now things were right

You sang that song
In front of the whole school-
Of course, other people sang it too-
But in my heart I knew
Now you sang it to me

In a few days
We parted ways-
School was out-
I moved away from town
But I left my heart with you

It became my obsession
HRL did
I wouldn't tell anyone
That those were your initials

I spent a week with my friends-
You weren't there-
They thought I was wrong to love you
They had someone else in mind
But I held strong against them

When we left
I left one thing behind-
HRL
Written in the sand
