Chapter 10: Teachers

Going into grade nine you might not know many of the teachers at your high school. That's okay, if you have older siblings who attend or have attended the same school talk to them about the teachers you get in grade nine. Some might be new but other's are most likely to be past teachers of your siblings. The way I approached grade nine was… well okay I just kept all the teachers I had. If they sucked I stuck with it. Turns out my grade nine year I had pretty good teachers.

Now once you've had a teacher once doesn't mean that this will be the last time you get them. Trust me I've gotten the same science teacher two years in a row, the same art teacher three years in a row and the same math teacher yet again. Okay so let me explain my grade ten math teacher experience I know you guys are in grade nine but this will help you. If you sibling or friend's older sibling has said that said teacher sucks. THEY SUCK, I know I sound kind of harsh but it's true. I've had had horrible times trying to understand and get help with math in grade ten because my teacher wouldn't let me do the problem the way I knew how and she wouldn't help me out at all. So yet again I have her, and I'm trying my darnedest to switch out. Why? Because I don't want to have to let my grades slip if it's because of the teacher. Don't let a teacher bring your grades down. If they aren't helping seek help from peers or from other math teachers. Sometimes you can't switch and in this case follow what I have just said.

It sucks, I know but sometimes you get great teachers and sometimes you don't.

What makes a good teacher?

They are easy to talk to.

They make things fun and add a cool up to date twist to things.

They relate a boring subject to everyday things that we're into.

They can joke around and are easy going.

They help you out if you need it.

They teach the lessons in a fun way and will add in discussion time.

*I had a really awesome religion teacher who was a new teacher. What they call a permanent temp. Meaning that they are filling in for someone who is on maturnity leave. They sometimes only teach for a year but they are the coolest. If you get a good one that is.

What makes a bad teacher?

They teach the coriculum and that's it.

They make things boring and tell you that that's they way it's done no matter what

They don't answer your questions correctly.

They show you how to do something the same way over and over again.

Won't except a way that you understand

Marks too hard

Relates things to stuff that you'll never be into

embarrasses you in front of the class by calling you up to something you don't understand how to do or calling out your method and making you do it the way you don't understand.

*okay so some of this only applies to math teachers but it's legit this is what my math teacher did. It's sad really that they are still teaching but apparently they aren't old enough to retire. I hate it when they decide to mix in things that don't make sense and just confuse you. Sigh I guess I'll have to deal.

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

I really hope you guys don't run into bad teachers like I did. Anyways good luck with school I think this will be my last chapter of the High School Survival Guide: Grade 9. If you want to protest feel free you may persuade me to continue it.
