Get Away From Me
Not to brag or anything, but I was probably the smartest eight year old one could ever meet.
Of course, having gone through etiquette school and being tutored privately every Saturday after a whole week of private education helped my brain function a tad bit more than an average eight year old... But one should blame that on parenting and their love for their only female daughter.
I was very used to being the smartest kid in my grade and getting praised for nearly everything I did. I was popular too; every kid wanted to be my friend, and it wasn't because I had the most expensive toys either.
... Not that I'm trying to brag.
But you know, every good thing comes to an end.
The day I started to actually try was the day I met Dunkan Hughes in all his eight and a quarter year old glory. Everyone loved Dunkan Hughes; he was sweet, smart, good looking and everything in between. Admittedly, I was a bit jealous he was getting all the attention, but what bugged me the most was how I seemed to see him everyday once he moved in next door. I was very used to having just his parents living there but his grandparents thought it time to send him back to New York to live with them.
See, Dunkan Hughes had a British education and had been living with his grandparents for the past four years. I nearly cried the day he got 'Star of the Week' instead of me.
Pathetic? Just a bit.
But I didn't expect an eight year old's jealousy to turn into straight out rivalry nearly a decade later.
