Author's Note:
I decided to upload this story for the sake of getting feedback. I want to know if I have any true potential to be a professional writer so here I am. This story is a work in progress, so I will take down and edit chapters that I do not like at some point during the process. I am entitled to take the story down at any time I wish. I am open to all criticism, good or bad, so feel free to criticize me to your heart's content. Of course, good reviews are always welcomed.
Warnings: This story does have cursing here and there, reason for the rating. About adult content in my story, only if it is relevant, if not it won't be included. This story does contain homosexual relationships (As in boyXboy relationships). However, my main character is a girl and she falls in love with boy, the story revolves around her. Anybody else is a secondary character. Turn back if you feel uncomfortable with the subject. Don't say I didn't warn you!
Rated M for language and future chapters.
Read&Review please! And enjoy!
Prologue
I live in a strange city. A city filled with people who panic at the sound of a howl and are all somehow connected to the government—through scientific ways or by joining the damn military. The city also happens to be the borderline between humans and nightwalkers. Nightwalkers are not just Vampires, as I used to believe. No, they are Werewolves, Witches, Alchemists, Dargarian, Daikuru, and I hear even Demons. As you know, vampires suck blood. Werewolves devour you whole. Witches apparently curse you and try to poison you with potions. Alchemists steal your organs and skin to make new beings. Dargarians are dragon people who feed off of virgins. Daikuru are cat people who seduce men and women and force them to kill their loved ones. And well, demons are just monsters, period.
Now, Nightwalkers I have never met, but rumors run like wild fire all the time. And the news helps those rumors grow. There isn't a day that goes by where they are reporting an attack, a breach of property, or worst, an invasion. I've only ever seen them on TV when the camera crews capture them on tape just as they are being led into Black Orb or Orbanet. But, because I believe they are as harmless as our pets, people think I am just another insane skeptic who will die on my endless search for truth.
That's what they say to me every time I ask whether or not they have ever seen a Nightwalker before. They say yes, tell me to shut up, and smile and look pretty. I'll show them pretty one day.
In my opinion, Nightwalkers are misunderstood. From the ones I see on the news who are captured and violently subdued—seriously, they never fight back, and those who do is because they are being treated like animals—and they are usually werewolves. I suppose because they are the easiest to capture. Either way, I think they are pinned for murders we as humans commit. Seriously, any psycho bastard could have easily stolen a heart, and as far as I know, when someone is found murdered, they are usually hole and complete. I know, my brother—he isn't really my brother, and I should probably not call him that since…well…let's say we are in a relationship—is in the Orb and his job specialty is dealing with Nightwalkers. He tells me when the stories are true or not, and most of them are always false.
Our city is big and divided into five Sectors, and all five sectors surround the Imperial House of Presidents, better known as the Royal Palace. They are a collection of leaders who come and go, ruling their cities and coming here to settle business or speak about the large metal fence separating the planet. I sometimes wonder if the fence really is that big. According to Vulcan, the fence goes for miles, and the areas the fence doesn't cover is because the cities are either too far from that area or because the Ocean and dessert work as natural fences. The fence is only the start. I hear the scientists are working on a large machine that can generate shields. Because apparently the Nightwalkers fly to.
The sectors are organized by level of presentation, and level of finance of its residents.
Sector 1 is the Paradiso District, or simply called the slums, mostly all homeless live there.
Sector 2 is the Incheon District, the lower class tends to live there, usually shop owners and restaurant owners who don't want anything to do with the government and just want to live a peaceful life.
Sector 3 is where all the other neighborhoods are at, mostly all levels of class live there, and depending on the amount of money earned, it determines what type of home you can own. It is split into three separate sections, the Meridia, the Orsini, and finally the Relics. The Meridia is where all rich live—and where I live—the Orsini is where the middle class live, and the Relics is where the lower middle class live. This sector also defines most of the city, that city itself stretches out for miles in a grand circle.
Sector 4 is where all the jobs, entertainment centers, and schools exist, dubbed the Quad. From malls to schools, to the law offices to even bakery shops, Sector 4 is the most common place visited by many, outsiders and residents. It is also the sector right next to the fence. Should there ever be an invasion, this sector would be the first invaded, and sealed off from everyone else.
Finally, Sector 5 is the Imperial House of Presidents. The tall white skyscraper standing in the middle of the city is the Imperial House of Presidents. It is so high it disappears into the sky. It's connected to smaller, reasonable, sized buildings, five in total that circle the main house. Each building represents something regarding our government. Black Orb headquarters is in building one, and the building you must cross to get to the Royal Palace. The second building is for Orbanet, the house of scientists, where Vulcan apparently spends his time in. The third building is the Maya Dante Academy for the Gifted. The damn school for those who want to spend the rest of their life stuck in that little circle that controls our city. The fourth building is simply called the Tombs. According to Cristof and Vulcan, it is a large library that holds information about everything. The final building is the main exit to the human world, dubbed the portal by the New Port City residents. The building is practically a check in point for all travelers leaving and coming, and an event hall for when our stupid President, Carlisle Cruz, talks to other presidents, or has a huge announcement. The main, tall building is our problem; it houses all the political figures from our city, and the rest of the world really. New Port City just so happens to be the damn capital, which is why it is also the city separating the humans from the Nightwalkers. That makes no sense to me, but it apparently does to them.
In all, this city is strange, with its politics, strange fear of beings that I rarely see attack, and stranger because of its inhabitants. That is New Port City, my home.
