A begging voice at night is heard

from a desperate caged soul

only I can hear each word

and freedom is its only goal

A lost key a locked door

endless walls and fences high

a caged bird longing to soar

clipped wings and a voice crying for the sky

But when I wake and seek solace in the day

the words remain, that echoed plea

and I can't pretend that it's all okay

as the relentless whisper still haunts me

It's not the voice I fear

nor sleep nor the black night

but the one fact I refuse to hear

the truth I ever fight

That locked in a cage of my own design

that trapped and helpless soul is me

lost and pretending that all is fine

alone and scared and never free
