Chapter Five

Nate's POV

After we returned Yuley to her parents I noticed something odd about the situation that was strangely off the moment we reached her small little town. She clung to me slightly as we walked while Lily talked to her like she didn't notice anything wrong with the situation.

"Is it me or are the people kept looking at us" Curtis pointed out as we walked and I thought I was the only one who noticed.

There were no kids on the street and if we saw a couple of them running around they would stop, stare at us and whisper about something to each other before walking away. The rest of the towns' people were the same and I was beginning to be a bit paranoid about it.

"And here I thought small town folks are more friendly to tourists than city men" Travis said in a teasing way trying to lighten the situation but it wasn't working.

Even some of the adults were giving us the evil eye as we passed by but I know they weren't directing it at us but on Yuley. Occasionally, I would look at her and even she feels awkward about the glares but keeps her voice calm as she talks to Lily.

"We're home!" she shouted when we got near this little wooden beach hut just near the beach.

Near it was these couple of dogs that looked like a mix between a Labrador and a golden retriever. One was sleek black and the other one is golden brown with patches of black on its head and paws. They both rushed us the moment we were close to the hut and tackled both Yuley and I.

"Whoa, there you are one overly friendly dog" I said while trying to peel off the black dog that was slobbering me to death.

Yuley on the other hand was giggling while letting the other one give her kisses. I glared at Travis who was trying hard not to laugh and Hayley who was busy videoing this on camera.

"A little souvenir when we get back" she explained and I just sighed before sitting up and scratching the back of the black dog's ear

"Arf!" it barked happily and wagged its tail from side to side

"Nice dogs" Lily said while bending down and patting the gold colored dog on its head.

"The black one is Keele and this one is Vixie" she said while pointing out which is which and this time even I had to suppress my laughter along with Travis.

After being tackled by Keele, I noticed which gender the dog is and I'm pretty sure it's not a guy and Vixie is not a girl but I didn't need to point it out to her since she might denies it or she meant to get it wrong for me to correct her.

"Yuley is that you?" a slightly deep voice said from the hut and a man came out from the door.

"I'm back!" she greeted while running to hug the man who merely lifted Yuley up the moment she was in arms reach.

He had a very scary looking face, with the small scars on his chin, forehead, and hands that looked like fishing hook scars. Deeply tanned with muscular arms and beefy hands, he had a military style hair cut, black hair and very serious storm gray eyes. The ideal protective dad which made me very uncomfortable and so did the others.

"Looks like you made a lot of friends again Yuley" he said with authority behind his happy voice.

"Yup, and I found big brother too" she happily exclaimed and her dad looked like she just dropped a live grenade on him.

He looked at me suspiciously with a bit of anger behind it and I was ready to bolt it then and there but both Hayley and Lily eyed at me almost mentally saying. "Stay here!"

Easy for them to say, I'm the one that the beach version of Terminator wants to kill. I thought but pushed the thought aside and stood up. The man puts Yuley down and told her to go in the hut to check on her mother whom she did leaving us alone with him making it scarier.

He approached us and looked at me really carefully as if looking at every single detail of me which somewhat made me self conscious. Then he looked me directly in the eyes which made it hard for me not to run but I actually picked up the energy Lily and the others were directing at me.

"Move and we are dead"

Which didn't make me relax one bit then scary looking terminator of a dad cleared his throat.

"What's your name kid?" he asked and I could have sworn it sounded so close to the actual Terminator which didn't help my already scared to death state.

"I'm Nate Jolans" I said which I was impressed that it sounded calmer than my thoughts of bolting

His eyes went wide briefly at the name, then he sighing heavily and rubs his temples. Maybe he heard of my dad's name before. I thought which means I have a thirty percent chance of surviving this day.

"Walk with me for a moment, we need to talk" he said in a serious voice but his face was hard to read.

Before any of us replied to him, he was already walking towards the beach without a backwards glance at us. We stood there speechless but decided to just do what he says. As we walked we silently talked about a game plan.

"What should we do?" I hissed

"He's one scary dude, I don't think we can out run him even if we try" Curtis whispered.

"Well we got Yuley home so how about we run in separate directions and meet back up at the yacht" Hayley suggested.

"He only wants to talk to Nate so how about we ditch him and get the hell out of here" Travis suggested and I stared at him in disbelief.

"I can't believe you and you're my cousin" I said back and he just smirked at me slyly.

"I still care about you, so I'll come back to collect your ashes as your close friend and family" he said and I just glared at him.

"That's actually a great plan" Hayley added and I rolled my eyes at them.

"Would you guys just stop it, he's not that scary" Lily pointed out and we just looked at her in pure disbelief which made her uncomfortable.

"Okay so maybe he reminds me of a vicious military looking wrestler but he's Yuley's dad and he just wants a talk" Lily pointed out and I just sighed thinking at least one of us is thinking rationally.

"Who knows, he's leading us away from any unnecessary spectators and is planning on a quick kill for taking advantage over her innocent daughter" Curtis said and we looked at him in shock.

"You have evil thoughts for your happy-go-lucky attitude" I remarked and he chuckled slightly.

"I'll take that as a compliment." He said and Hayley sighed.

"Lucas and Clair sure are lucky that they decided to stay behind" Hayley pointed out and Travis nodded in agreement.

We just kept quiet when we found Yuley's dad stopped walking and was looking straight out on the vast open sea. He had his arms crossed and again his expression was hard to read. We walked a little closer and he looked at us briefly before looking back the sea.

"My name is Wyane and I am sorry for my daughter's actions" he said in an apologetic manner.

At first I thought I misheard what he said and it took all of us to realize what he was trying to say which was really embarrassing.

"Um, it's not really a big issue to us, I'm just glad she's okay" I said and he sighed slightly,

"Who much trouble did she caused this time?" he asked and I looked at the others for support and they just waved at me to just explain.

We all sat on the sand while I tell Wyane the terminator what happened earlier and the more I explained his eyes looked like storm clouds. Unpredictable and hard to read but maybe it was always a part of his attitude so I try not to let it bother me. When I was finally done explaining he just sighed deeply again and rubbed his temples as if he was having a really bad headache. That's when it hit me.

"She'd done this before hasn't she?" I asked and he just sighed again before nodding.

He didn't face me but just looked at the sea as if it's the only thing that calms him at the moment.

"After my son died, our family had gone downhill and it gets hard to get by with my wife's sickness and Yuley's antics. One problem after the other, it just kept piling up" he said and I could tell the tiredness in his voice.

"You mean she really did this before?" Lily asked and Wyane nodded liked he is really ashamed of it.

"Would at least forgive her for this, I try to tell her to stop it but every vacation season she constantly pulls out this stunt and it gets worst every time" he said and I just looked at the other and even realization hits them.

"For short, she's a little con artist huh" Travis summarized but gave him a warning glance since we are still dealing with a really sad yet equally maybe angry terminator father.

But Wyane just nodded his head in shame even with Travis' very blunt approach. Wyane explained how Yuley always does this to rich tourist to get them to help their family, at first it appeared as an act of kindness to the towns people but as she didn't it more than countless of times people were starting to get irritated and disgusted by Yuley and in the end Wyane and his wife tries their best to make her stop and apologize to those she tricks.

"Well you cannot perform the same trick twice to the same audience otherwise the trick will be revealed or worst copied" Travis quoted and some nodded in agreement.

"But couldn't still she's just a kid" Lily pointed out on Yuley's defense.

"Even though, everyone has a different view on a situation and sometimes stunts like these will result into something that would get others to think she's deceiving people" Hayley pointed out and Curtis nodded in agreement.

"Again I am sorry for what my daughter has done" Wyane repeated and I told him everything is okay and he just nodded.

"But for once she did brought someone that does resemble my son" he said and gave me a small smile and I was put in another awkward situation.

"Even though it's a con at least she's honest about the scenario slightly" I said which made Wyane a bit happy that I don't hate what Yuley's been doing.

"My son likes the sea, and he died loving it. Somehow I sense the presence of the sea within you. Calming, unpredictable yet always cools the mind of those who are confuse" he said and I found Lily holding my hand and smiling like he knows what he's talking about

I on the other hand am confused but it isn't the first time I was compared to the sea. Lily constantly tells me that I smell like the sea but I don't wear cologne that had ocean scent and here is Wyane the terminator telling me I have the sea's presences.

"I'll take that as a compliment besides no harms done with what Yuley did" I said and he relaxed completely and gave me a cheerful smile.

"To show my gratitude towards friendly people like you, how about joining us tonight for dinner, invite your family if you must. All of you should have a taste of local delicacies" he said and both Travis and Hayley grinned from ear to ear.

"If you told us that earlier then of course we'd come" they both said and we just laughed it off while the sea water goes up and down the shore.
