PossessionsāHappiness
A sum of all the debris piled around me,
things bought to please,
things bought to appease
have done neither for me.
I can only stare at my life savings
put into used books,
greasy fast-food cartons,
and wonder at what could have been.
I surround myself with the inanimate
because they don't judge,
they don't ever leave me.
Then why is it I'm so lonely?
Once I had people I called friends,
who came calling for me,
and not my belongings,
but they saw where my allegiance lay.
I hold these things,
but they no longer hold me.
