My Girlfriend is a Teenage Genie Prologue

Cole had always lived a fairly normal life; day in and day out he attended Rydel Private Boarding School. The school for the gifted students, at least that's how everyone referred to it. He had two parents like any other family and an older brother, Scotty. Even though Cole was secure in a home that loved him and put a roof over his head, Cole yearned for more adventure, to be someone great. So for days at a time he often sat down and wrote, sometimes for hours at a time before calling it a night and returning to his routine.

For Cole writing was about pulling something great out of his mind, something no one had ever thought of and putting it down for others to read. Sometimes he wrote about the end of the world, other times he wrote epic fantasies, and sometimes, though it was rare, he wrote love stories. Cole was never one for love and to be honest had never had a love to write about. Cole never exactly finished his love stories; in fact he never saw a point in keeping them.

Cole wanted more than an average life in High School; he craved what the heroes craved in his fantasy stories. A life of magic, adventure, and wonder.

One fateful day his father lay before him on his deathbed in a white hospital bed, his father dying before him, it was the last thing to push him over the edge. Little did Cole know the words his father spoke would change his life forever.

"Dad, you don't understand I can't do this, I can't just sit back and let things play out the way they are." Cole complained tears flowing from his eyes.

His father breathed heavily through an oxygen mask, his voice was masked over deep, his breathing was heavy.

"You know Cole, you remind me of your mother, you were always just like her." He coughed a little, "Never could accept reality, and always need to write out your own story. You were both so unlike your brother and I, you know I had the same problem as a child." He took a moment to cough, before returning the oxygen mask to his mouth.

"What do you mean dad?"

"I too was a teenager once, but I had a selfish streak, it was when I found the lamp that I obtained all that I wanted." His father removed the mask suddenly coughing even harder, "Look son, I want you to have it and if you or your mother should ever need for anything don't be afraid to use it."

"Look Dad, I'm sure we'll be fine, you have no reason to worry." Cole reassured him as he choked on his own sadness.

"No!" His father raised his voice suddenly, his eyes moved up to Cole's. "No, just please do as I say, in our attic I've left a box, it should be labeled Genie. Just promise me if you or your mother ever should need it, just open it."

"Look Dad we're going to be fine."

"Just!" His voice shook slightly in pain, "Promise me."

Cole looked into his father's eyes, "Yeah Dad you got it, I promise."
