Quarter Life

...

At quarter life turn over a page and view the crisis:

Glossy lives lived in glossy magazines all infamy achieved before age eighteen,

Leaving behind a nasty taste for those whose lives are not lived in such haste.

A comparable quarter life achieved, seven years past the sell-by date,

And what to show but more waiting.

For life to start and really begin to achieve instead of a dull whitewashed paste,

Of the past reflecting results from ten years before and nothing to show for it since.

Lost, the world not an oyster but a door with the key withheld and the need to purchase a clue.

...

Yet there is hope for turning a page of a hefty tome,

Feels sharply like coming home.

For too long now in a wilderness of wasted opportunity,

Time wandered alone.

A dedicated series of years on a voyage,

Discovery on re-opening learning in seconds,

Truth.

A career to be followed through a simple choice,

To turn a page and find a voice.

...

The power to be found in knowledge earned and strived over,

Not the disposable, the inane with the sheen worn off and cast aside all too soon.

But truth something to be dedicated to. A new horizon to be chased,

A life to be lived in haste.

A sense of purpose rediscovered by reverting to what once was but has been strayed from.

The oyster prised open and the prize put on display;

A grain of irritating sand concealed into something so precious,

A pearl of wisdom announcing: knowledge is power.

...

A quarter reached and something to fill the intermittent years,

Better than jealous glares and recollections of ubi sunt.

As though the past was better, a sublime place.

Hard work, fortitude and an understanding reached of who and I and am,

Added value by rediscovering meaning to life.

The pursuit of education to renew passion and end strife.

A quarter life and the crisis of a lifetime solved:

What shall I become?

What I am.

What I return to.

What I will be.

Booked.
