I tried to create
A list of reasons why
It could never work
Between you and I.

I tried to organize
What it was I didn't like,
Even the way you make
My heart beat spike.

I've tried to forget feeling
That spark of surprise.
But I can't help seeing it
In your smiling hazel eyes.

I tried to count what we
Have in common, and
The words were so easy,
My protests couldn't stand.

I tried so very hard to
Resist the urge to give in.
But when was there ever
A time romance was a sin?

If you'll try then I will too.
Perhaps we'll fall together
Into a place where we can
Stoke the start of embers
