"Man, you're stupid."
"Shut up! It's just that you're ridiculously smart, so it makes me look stupid!"
"Look?"
I glared and stuck up my middle finger at him. He regarded with his usual emotional look. I sighed and looked down at my algebra homework.
"Really, we're best friends and you treat me like this? You're horrible David," I said and swiped my pointer finger under my bright blue eyes, pretending I was crying.
"Shouldn't I be saying that? I say one harmless insult and you flip me the bird. Come on, let's finish this homework you asked me to help you with," David stated as he ran his hand through his short, spiky, black hair.
I blew my blond bangs out of the way and once again looked at my algebra homework. All I saw was a bunch of numbers that didn't make sense. I felt David's midnight black eyes stare at me.
"Nicole, staring at it won't make it solve its self. Look,' he said and got up from his seat, "You carry this and add this, then….." he explained as he came behind my seat and leaned over me while he pointed at the sheet.
I unconsciously blushed when his cheek slightly grazed mine. I furrowed my brow, confused, when my heartbeat sped up when he whispered in my ear the instructions.
When he was done explaining, he backed away from me and I frowned, missing the contact. I took my pencil in my hand and worked on the question he told me to do. Once I finished the problem, I looked at David nervously and waited for him to correct the problem.
"Its right," he said as he leaned over me again to see the sheet.
I let out a sigh of relief at the proclamation when he suddenly grasped my chin and made me look at him.
'Don't look at the table," he said urgently, while glancing at the table and waving his hand at something.
Curiosity got the better of me and strained my eyes to look at the table. I froze when I saw the object David was waving at. Its hairy legs crawled over my notebook and its eight eyes stared ahead of its self. I froze even more when I saw it suddenly coming steadily toward me. I couldn't take it anymore when it stared at me suddenly.
I stood up quickly and turned around, ready to run from the spider. My foot got caught on one of the chairs legs during my sprint and I fell backwards. I felt strong arms envelop me into a tight embrace and brace the fall for me. Once I was safely on the ground, the arms slowly unwrapped themselves from my body and let go of me.
I looked up to see David with a concerned look on his face. He was on top of me with both his hands on either side of my face and his knees on either side of my body. I then noticed that our faces were so close together that our noses brushed up against each other. I felt heat gather at my cheeks as I finally recognized our intimate position.
"W-What are y-you doing, you pervert? Get off me!" I exclaimed and moved my head to the side.
"What are you doing? One minute you're fine, the other you're falling to the ground. Really, your phobia for spiders is amazing,' he said as he sighed but didn't move his position.
I turned my head to look at him and demand why he didn't get off me, when I looked into his eyes. They held the most intense look I had ever seen. They were gazing at my lips and I felt if they weren't just eyes, they would burn a hole right through them. I swallowed lightly when I looked at David's lips.
They look really kissable… wait what am I thinking? Even though I was reprimanding myself, I was leaning forward and noticed so was David.
When our lips met, I felt a spark, as cliché as that sounds. They moved to an unseen rhythm, meshing together like two half's of a circle. Heat steadily stated to consume the room as the duet became more passionate. Hands tangled into hair, as a wet, slick tongue pushed against my lips, asking for entrance. I opened my mouth and the pink muscle lapped at mine. Our tongues began a dance of their own as pants and groans became more apparent in the room.
A strong, large hand delved under my shirt and grazed my stomach. His touch left hot delicious trails that made me shiver and tremble. I gasped at the sensations and unconsciously arched into the hand, wanting more. Suddenly the need to breath caught to us as we both pulled away.
"W-What just happened," I said as I tried to regain my breath.
"I," David started and sucked in a much needed breath, "I don't know."
I looked down and noticed he still had his hand under my shirt and blushed. David saw my blush and noticed his hand too. He quickly blushed and slipped his hand out of the soft material as he pushed himself off me. I sat up and turned my body away from him as I touched my lips gingerly.
He tasted sweet… like chocolate, I thought and glanced at him. I looked away as my heart gave a painful lurch. Memories of David suddenly assaulted my mind as I put my hand over my heart.
David has always been there, through hard times and good times. He would always try to cheer me up and though he complained, he always helped when I asked for his assistance. His smile, his frown, his laugh, his personality, his everything, I couldn't stop thinking of him. My eyes widened as the realization it me.
I love him.
I love him, I love him, I love him.
Tears poured out of my eyes as these emotions consumed me. David saw my expression and gently laced his fingers with mine, something he did when he wanted to comfort me. I ripped my hand away from his hold and his eyes widened in shock.
That was it, I love him, but he probably doesn't love me.
I ran my hands through my hair and caught the silky strands. I pulled harshly on them as our passionate kiss flashed through my mind. He probably kissed me because it was a spur of the moment thing, I thought as more tears poured down my cheeks at the possibility.
"Nicole," David breathed and inched towards me, "look at me."
I moved away from him and continued to look away.
"Nicole, please look at me," he repeated, desperation wove into his voice and he moved closer to me once again, as I clenched my hands into s fist.
"Look at me!" He exclaimed and grasped my face between his two hands.
"What's wrong, Nicole. Please tell me," David said and grazed his thumb on my cheek to catch the saddened water droplets.
"It's you!" I suddenly yelled, and slapped his hands away from my face.
"It's you," I repeated in a hushed whisper.
"Then, I'm sorry."
"What?"
"I'm sorry if my presence bothers you so much. For that, I am sorry."
My eyes enlarged at his statement. Even during this moment, when I'm the one screaming and accusing, he always puts my on the pedestal. I lunged myself into his arms and sobbed into his shirt, murmuring apologies. All the while, David was rubbing back and telling me it was okay.
"I love you," I said as my cries died down. I felt him tense and stop his rubbing.
"I know you don't love me. It's okay. I just wanted to let you know and not live with the regret of not telling you," I continued and tried to sound cheerful as my tears started to flow again.
"So, if you would let me go so we could part peac-" I started but was cut off as lips pressed against my own.
"Who said I didn't love you too?"
"Huh?"
"I'm saying I love you, you idiot," David said and wrapped his arms around me tightly.
"I've always loved you, Nicole. Everything about you brightens my day and I can't seem to get you out of my mind. I always wanted to tell you but I was afraid I would lose you and was content with our friendship. But, as I saw you under me, I...lost control. And, as I was kissing you, I thought, is friendship enough? Will I be able to stand another man to be with you? Can I really not be with you? However, as I saw your tears fall like dew on leaves, I knew it couldn't be. Then, when you jumped into my arms and proclaimed you loved me I taught it was a dream. You can imagine how happy I was when I found out it was true!" he said and gave me one of his rare smiles, "Nicole, I love you."
I smiled as tears of joy ran down my cheeks and wrapped my arms around him.
"I love you too, David."
And with that, a pair a lips connected to finish the dance they started.
