Pleasures of a Cigarette

Joe was a man about the age of thirty-two; he had black hair and eyes. He was a bricklayer by trade. One Saturday afternoon it happened that Joe got hungry and with that he went to a local diner to get a bite to eat. After he was seated, he looked at the menu and decided to have a hamburger, fries, and a coke. The waitress walked over to his table and took his order. She didn't seem to pay much attention to Joe, for she didn't notice anything special about him. Her name was Julie; she had blond hair with blue eyes. She stood about five-foot six inches and weighed a hundred and twenty pounds. After she had Joe's order, she went to the kitchen and gave the cook the order. While Joe was sitting there he thought to himself that Julie was a pretty young woman. She looked about twenty-two years old to him and he noticed that she did not have a wedding band on. But he, also, noticed that she didn't seem interested in him. Julie returned with his food and drink.

"Here's your food, sir," spoke Julie with the business tone of a waitress.

"Thanks," replied Joe.

After Julie gave Joe his food, she left. Boy, she thought that guy just doesn't have any exciting qualities at all. Joe finished his meal and then he decided to have a cigarette. He pulled the pack of Lucky-Strikes out of his shirt pocket. He pulled a cigarette out of the pack, stuck it near his nose, and smelled it. It smelled good and Joe knew it was going to be a good smoke. Joe stuck the un-filtered cigarette in his mouth and then he lit it with his Zippo. The cigarette tasted great and the tobacco caressed his lungs and gave him a sense of pleasure that only a cigarette can. From across the diner, Julie saw Joe smoking.

She thought to herself, I misjudged that guy. Why he's a daredevil just look at how he smokes that cigarette. He doesn't have any fear. Then Joe took the cigarette out of his mouth and Julie saw that it was un-filtered. That was too much for her and she went back to talk to Joe. After ten minutes of talking, Julie decided to meet Joe for a movie. When her shift was over, she and Joe walked out of the diner together arm in arm.

The moral of this story is smoke Lucky Strikes and get lucky.

The End
