Liberation
Prologue
Arvid Terp was not a paranoid man. He was bold, he was brave and he always got everything he wanted. But that night, five years ago, the blonde haired green eyed man was left pacing 'round and 'round his the lavish furniture of his office. How had he let this happen? Arvid closed his eyes and collapsed into his chair, his thoughts angrily swirling through his head. How had he not seen it? He had known the Neverin girl since she was four. She and his niece were best friends… he had seen Neverin when she had sleepovers with Kaylie, when she and her family were over for dinner… how had he not realized that she was one of Them? And worse, she was ten. Ten was apprentice time for Them. Again, Arvid cursed his stupidity. A soft timid knock sounded on the door and he hoped it was one of his officers, carrying the Neverin girl's corpse. But the one in charge of finding her, a young man by the name of Newman, wouldn't have even bothered knocking. He would have just barged in, loud and arrogant as ever. "Come in," Arvid said with a sigh. The door opened and the futile hope left Arvid. It was just Kaylie, his harmless niece. Arvid shook his head reminding himself that Kaylie wasn't so harmless. She had covered for the Neverin girl for years. Helping her hide he talent, "What is it Kaylie?" his voice betrayed his exasperation and even a bit of his fear. He shook his head again. First Kaylie, now even his voice was betraying him. Was there no one he could trust? Kaylie's hazel eyes locked onto his pale green ones. Her eyes were lacking the cold, calculating look they usually had. Instead, the hazel orbs were wide and fearful.
"U-uncle," she stuttered out, "When you find her, please, don't kill her or force her into the army… please. Zulu is my best friend,"
"Kaylie, Neverin is one of Them! Don't you understand the treat she poses to the Terp right to the Atrenymian throne?" Arvid asked incredulously.
"Uncle, Zulu didn't chooseto be born with those talents! Not all of Them are bad. You're just jealous and fearful because They have more power than either of us ever will!" Arvid ignored his niece and slumped back into his chair, thoroughly annoyed. The door banged open and Newman stomped in.
"The Neverin girl is gone, President Terp. She disappeared over the border an hour ago." Just as fast as he came, Newman was gone, slamming the door as he left, going off to nurse his injured pride. Kaylie smirked.
"Your never gonna find her Uncle. Zulu's too smart for that. She's gone, but trust me, she will be back. Back to liberate Atrenym," and then, Kaylie was gone too. Her long light brown hair swishing behind her and she left the room, a smile playing on her lips.
Arvid wanted to kill Kaylie in that moment. But he realized that if he wanted to remain on the Atrenymian throne, he mustn't kill his brother's daughter. That would get him into a lot of trouble. Maybe even start a war. And as much as Arvid Terp loved violence, he certainly couldn't afford a spat between him and his brother at this moment. Instead Arvid flipped open his VisuCom ignoring, as he always did, that VisuComs could only be made by Them. The very race he lived in fear of, and called Lieutenant Day. "Hello President! What can I do for you?" The voice of Lana Day sounded as the holographic image of her face appeared.
"Kill the Neverin's, Lieutenant. The Neverin girl escaped. Make sure that not one Neverin lives." Arvid snapped the VisuCom shut, terminating the connection, and grinned. Finally something was going right. Zulu Neverin would never return and hopefully, nothing like the Neverin case would happen again. Luckily, for Atrenym however, Dictator Terp's fractured fantasy was not the truth. Zulu Neverin would be back. And she would want revenge.
Word Count: 676 not counting A/N or this little end note. Also please review, or I'll sic Lana Day on you… she's totally badass… not that you'd know that just yet… but please, review, and give your honest opinion. The only reason I'm even posting this on FP is to get some honest opinions that aren't at all controlled by obligatory feelings.
