leverage

footsteps fall between the
cracks of a subconscious,
clunking like consonants
trudging through tongues,

dying in the back of throats,
sound like phlegm on
the cusp of expulsion,
weighed down by words

better left in letters,
defeat is rewriting this
with suburban minds
caving into landfills
